Today, October 8, Alec Fraser, Jamie Meehan and Mike Brock will be hitting the open road instead of the water and starting their 1200 mile bike journey to raise critical funds for cancer research. The trio will go from Seattle to Santa Clara, California, with the goal of arriving on October 23.

They will average 63 miles per day with a total of 51,000 feet of elevation during the journey - nearly two Mt. Everests! Along the way, friends and supporters will join them for portions of the ride, turning every mile into an opportunity to make a difference -- with a goal to raise $75,000 to support a pediatric cancer research.

1,200 Miles. One Mission. $75,000 for Cancer Research.

This ride commemorate the 5th anniversary of their previous cross-country bike ride as part of Team JF and Swim Across America. They ride in memory of Julian Fraser and Shan Brock -- and this year, they also ride for their friend and man-of-many talents, George Hannigan, and for Jamie’s spectacular youngest sister, Janel Meehan. The journey will continue the fight against pediatric cancer through research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center supported. by Swim Across America.

For today's #WhyISwim Wednesday, we are featuring Drennan Shall. Drennan, a Swim Across America - Charlotte participant and Junior Advisory Board member, was featured on WTVI-TV (PBS, Ch. 42) for a Carolina Impact Story. 📸

As a toddler, Drennan was diagnosed with stage III, group 3 rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Drennan underwent extensive treatment at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. After years of determination and courage, he entered remission in 2013, and hasn't looked back - being determined as ever to give back to his community.

We can't wait for the upcoming SAA-Charlotte open water swim this Sunday, there's still time to donate at swimacrossamerica.org/charlotte ❤️ by @saaswim

Though we had to pivot for safety, we were still #makingwavestofightcancer today! We've raised over $440k supporting cancer research and clinical trials here in Baltimore for @hopkinskimmel. Keep fundraising through 10/31 - let's break $500k in 2026!

As Dr. Bill Nelson, Director of The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center said, "Every stroke you swim fuels more progress against this disease"

Special thanks to @copperminemeadowbrook for allowing us to use their beautiful facility this weekend! @saaswim by @saaswim
