On June 7, three members of our Saathi Teachers Programme team attended the two-day training, “Progressive Assessment for Empowering Learning in Primary Grades,” organised by the Ullens Centre for Educator Development (UCED) at Ullens School.

Representing the team were Sneha Shrestha, Schools Coordinator; Safina Maharjan, TDC; and Aruna Shrestha, Deputy Program Coordinator of STP.

“As shared by Safina, the training focused on the Continuous Assessment System (CAS) and narrative report writing through observation, checklists, portfolios, class activities, and rubrics. A key takeaway was understanding assessment as evidence collection and evaluation as judgement of evidence.”

Participants also engaged with teachers and representatives from different schools and organisations, gaining insights into diverse classroom practices and assessment approaches.

Special thanks to the Ullens School family, Medin Lamichhane Sir, facilitators, coordinators, teachers, and Sanjaya Adhikari Sir, Director of UCED, for the learning experience.

Day 9 to 14 at Saathi School: from diving deep into content with subject sessions, getting informed about child rights, and reflecting on a movie with a story that spoke to every aspiring educator. Now, our Saathi Candidates embark on a journey to real classrooms with real students. Our Saathi Candidates have officially begun their practice teaching in Gunsa, Paanchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchwok. The journey is just beginning, and we couldn't be more excited for what's ahead for our Saathi Candidates!!

The past few days at Saathi School have been a wonderful journey of growth and learning for our Saathi Candidates!

From Miracle Morning journal writing sessions to real classroom observations and mock-teaching at Lalit Kalyan Kendra Lower Secondary School, our candidates have been immersed in hands-on experiences. They also dove deep into understanding the Education System and National Education Goals of Nepal, Child Psychology, and Pedagogy. Along with that, they also engaged in honing their skills in Lesson Planning and Execution, exploring the diverse types of learners and learning hierarchies, which will better prepare them for the real classroom settings.

One day at a time, our Saathi Candidates are moving forward to be the changemakers they have always aspired to be.

Saathi Teachers Programme (STP), an initiative of Helambu Education and Livelihood Partnership (HELP), is calling passionate individuals to teach Math or English at the primary level in rural Nepal — because “Primary Must Not Be Secondary.”

This is a paid, two-year, supervised teaching programme designed to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy, while nurturing Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration (4Cs) in children.

A HELP Scholarship recipient of 2017, Junmaya’s journey comes full circle as she returns to serve her own community. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she joined the Saathi Teachers Programme with a strong commitment to give back and create meaningful change in rural education.
