Showrooms captured on camera, the way they were designed to be seen.

Some of my favourite shoots over the last year have been beautiful showrooms in Melbourne. From homewares and furniture to a bridal boutique.

I used to design rooms before I photographed them. I know what the design process looks like - and that’s what convinces someone to book you.

So now I photograph it on purpose. Not for how it looks. For what it proves.

Add it to your next shot list. It’s the difference between building a portfolio and a brand.

How I decide which shots to prioritise on a 2-hour shoot 📷
Short time frame. But in content-first marketing, there’s never just one priority.

+ It starts before I arrive. What is this content for and where is it going? A beautiful photo is one thing. A photo that works across your website, socials, and collateral is another. This is what a shot list and briefing is for.

+ Don’t bring your full collection expecting a full house shoot. Edit before we even begin - fewer scenes, more intention.

+ From there, my usual rule of thumb: 50% hero shots, 30% details and alternate angles, 20% coverage.

+ I don’t start with the hardest shot (technical or styling wise). I start with my favourite - the one I know will work. That momentum really shines through the shoot.

+ I work with natural light, not against it. Every decision on where to move next is based on where the light is best.

+ Detail shots don’t need to show function. They need to sell feeling.

On this shoot with @dahliaanddove we worked across three spaces only - kitchen, living, entry - and walked away with content for website, socials and ads.

Two hours sounds limiting. But if you know what you’re walking into and with a great plan, it can be enough. by @sabi.collective

The blog archives are worth a visit.
This one breaks down my creative process for brand shoots - from brief to final image. Including why a Pinterest board is not creative direction.

As an interior photographer/ videographer, these are conversations I find myself having a lot - about how to make beautiful content go further. Because it pains me to watch stunning work get let down by the page it lives on.

Here’s what I kept seeing:

+ Inconsistency between lo-fi and polished content - cycling through different CapCut templates might feel casual, but it quietly devalues the work you’re putting out

+ Projects shot beautifully but shared once, in one post - that body of work deserved a lot more than a single carousel

+ Services buried or missing entirely - someone lands on your page, loves the house you designed or space you’ve styled, but no idea what your services actually entail

+ Treating your page as a portfolio, not a business - beautiful work with no clear signal of who you are or how to hire you

+ No sense of the designer’s hand anywhere on the page - who made the decisions? What’s the thinking behind the work? That’s what clients are actually buying

+ The gap between the photography and everything else - when the shot is editorial and the graphic over it is a Canva template from 2019, people feel it

The photography is rarely the problem. It’s everything around it. by @sabi.collective

I used to think this job would feel like constant inspiration.
It does, sometimes.

But most of it is actually more considered, and more about process than people realise.
