🎂🐾 Two milestones, one incredible K9! 🐾🎂

Yesterday, K9 Shep celebrated his 6th birthday and his 5th year of service as a certified police K9! 🇺🇸🐕‍🦺

For five years, Shep has been a dedicated partner, protecting our community and answering the call whenever duty calls. Here’s to another year of hard work, countless tennis balls, and plenty of treats! His service stripe (small fry) is well earned!

Help us wish K9 Shep a happy 6th birthday and congratulate him on 5 years of service! 🎉🐾

K9 Vinnie – Available for Placement as a Single-Purpose EOD Dog

We currently have a 2-year-old Czech Shepherd, K9 Vinnie, who is not a suitable fit for our unit’s current operational needs. We are exploring placement opportunities with an agency that may benefit from his skill set, particularly in a single-purpose Explosive Ordnance Detection (EOD) role.

Born May 12, 2024, Vinnie has been trained and POST-certified in both patrol and EOD. His additional training includes agility, on- and off-leash obedience, and article searching. He is an extremely social, obedient dog with a strong foundation in training.

Over the past eight months, Vinnie has demonstrated repeated failures to engage in a variety of patrol scenarios, including encounters with passive suspects, actively resisting suspects, and assaultive subjects. More recent training has also identified confidence limitations when conducting searches away from his handler. Vinnie has not been worked on an e-collar in several months.

Based on his temperament, obedience, and existing detection training, we believe Vinnie may be well-suited for a single-purpose EOD role with an agency whose operational needs align with his strengths.

Vinnie is available with complete medical records, full X-rays, and a veterinary medical evaluation. Copies of his records and additional information can be provided upon request.

If you, your agency, or another agency you know may be interested in acquiring Vinnie, please reach out for additional information. by @sacpdk9

September 11, 2001 — Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families who were forever changed, and the brave men and women who ran toward danger when others were running away.

We also remember the four-legged heroes who worked tirelessly in the days and weeks that followed.

Thousands of first responders, volunteers, and search teams came together at Ground Zero, including cadaver dogs who searched through the rubble for the victims who never made it home. Working in unimaginable conditions, these K9s searched for hours on end, guided only by their training, determination, and an incredible bond with their handlers.

Their work brought closure to families, gave dignity to those who were lost, and demonstrated once again the extraordinary capabilities of the K9.

Today, the Sacramento Police Department K9 Unit honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice and remembers the K9 teams who stood alongside our nation’s first responders during one of the darkest moments in American history.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🐾
