Not the last photo/ post of this series lining up with Trans Day of Visibility!!!!! I didn’t plan this sometimes the universe is just cute like that !! I don’t even feel worthy of pioneering any type of thought or echoing any pain as I am new in my own journey and feel like I’m just beginning to doggy paddle in the pond that is gender… but maybe that’s the point. Leslie Feinberg once said “Gender is the poetry each of us makes out of the language we are taught.” And RuPaul once said (ignore the fracking) we’re all born naked and the rest is drag and I think with all of this and with the exploration of this series everyone is trying to say the same thing. Being trans isn’t an othering, it’s not different, it’s not weird, it’s very much a lot of the same. We’re all just trying to understand ourselves and the world around us. We all do things to make our day to day tolerable. Everyone has something they reach for to make the reflection in the mirror feel more like home. The language we use to describe it, especially lately, feels like the biggest divider; rather than the essence of what we’re all thinking and feeling. I see a lot of lesbians getting caught up in labels and fighting over who deserves to be in what space, and I ask myself when did we get so divided? We used to fight FOR each other not against. I look around me at trans people, black, brown, tall, short, fat, skinny, differently abled and see people more like me than not. On this trans day of visibility, and every other day I ask you to do the same. Thank you again to everyone part of this series, thank you @isslattsreal the beautiful person in this photo! The incredible Chris Moon @heejikage I mean my god what a face card !!! A mother never has favorites but I love the marriage between raw materials and makeup with this look- I humbly admit I didn’t have looks planned for models when we came to @haozeng_com house, just a moodboard and a vision. With each look we built and built and built until we felt complete, true creative trust and flow… This was also my first time meeting Chris in person after many attempts at testing and I’m glad this ended up being the one. They’re such a kind, generous, and beautiful person inside and out and I’m honored they participated in this project.
