MAHABA - weaves futuristic Iconography with historical African aesthetics and contemporary research to propose a potential roadmap for society’s next steps. By blending visual arts with community research, the project encourages viewers to investigate their personal histories to envision collectivist models of moving forward. The Resonants (aka the characters in these images) are members of the Mahaba Universe that hold space for the interior lives of others tending to the unseen traumas that linger beneath social injustices and generational pain. They’re trained in Emotional Cartography- an ancient future practice that maps the emotional state of individuals through sound, touch and collective storytelling. Ultimately to help process the wounds left behind by colonization and capitalism.
