I had joined this team last spring during a time I was very down on myself and was looking distract myself along with wanting to become a better cheerleader. Ending the season now, I wanted to share some things I observed. This team has been the most welcoming team I’ve ever seen. I came in knowing the majority had grown up together and had already established their friendships but by the time I left the second week of practice I had felt so welcomed. People made an effort to get to know and include me in little but impactful ways from the very beginning despite knowing very little about me. Whether I was learning a new tumbling skill, trying a new stunt, or doing something I was afraid of, somebody was yelling for me. These coaches have pushed me out of my comfort zone this entire season and even when it was hard or uncomfortable, the community made it so much easier to do. Cheerleading is such a mental game and even when I had doubted myself this season, someone saying one thing on the mat would help me keep going even when I was scared. There were a lot of times I had come in after a bad day and by the time I left, I had completely forgotten about it. Even though there were many hard practices or times I was frustrated, I genuinely am grateful for this team because it pushed me in ways I have never been pushed before and I got to know so many great people from different schools. Today, I had the privilege to baptize two of my bestest friends and I could not be more proud of them. I can’t wait to see where the Lord takes them and am excited to grow with them.
