TAKE 23 premieres tonight on YouTube at 9:00 PM. 🎬

In conjunction with the release of my latest short film, TAKE 23, I finally decided to do something I’ve been putting off for years.
Believe it or not, I’ve made eight short films (directed all eight, wrote six), yet none of them ever made it to YouTube. 😂

Like I’ve mentioned before, I let my insecurities and constant overthinking get in the way of my pursuit of perfection. Looking back, I was still learning—and in many ways, I still am. But one thing I know for sure is that I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

So instead of keeping them hidden forever, I decided to share them.
Oh, and yes... seven of my short films are finally making their way to YouTube! (I might hide them again later... who knows. 😂)

For anyone who’s curious, here’s my short film journey so far:
🎬 TAKE 23 (2026)
🎬 Propaganda (2024)
🎬 Engaged / Sunting (2022)
🎬 Drunk on Cigarettes (2021)
🎬 Aku Bukan Pontianak (2020)
🎬 Dunk (2019)
🎬 STAY-AT-HOME MOM (2019)
🎬 Yang Benar, Sadiq (2018)

A little note about TAKE 23...

This film is the definition of a passion project. There was no budget, no production team, and no fancy equipment—just a few friends making a film with whatever we had.

Thank you, @saufiqahharr and @tsaratennyson , for saying yes from the very beginning. Thank you for not only acting, but for helping with everything behind the scenes too—from arranging the flowers and flower vase, moving props around, to doing whatever was needed to get the shots done.

Thank you, @4marlutf1, for coming over to record the audio... even though we somehow ended up not using it. 😂

Thank you, @the_aikal and @4marlutf1, for helping us pull the curtains between takes.

Thank you @syafiqsyaf , for lending us the smoke machine.

Thank you, @tina.shah.52 , for becoming our Pontianak and even doing your own makeup.

And lastly, thank you to my housemates, @am.mrl_ and @azimnzri , for putting up with all the noise, screams, and late-night filming at home, even though both of you had work the next morning. I’m sure none of you got a peaceful night’s sleep. 😭

Most of all, thank you again to Saufi and Tsara. By the end of the shoot, it was just th taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @sadiqasque

Six years ago, when I was 23, I made a passion project with a few friends. It was a horror short film called 𝐀𝐤𝐮 𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐤... or at least, I think that was the title. Honestly, I can’t remember anymore. It starred @kutufutubom & @ellyza_azizi .

We never got to finish it. The edit was left incomplete, and over time, most of the original files were lost because they were left on a friend’s computer. The only surviving copy was the first draft I had managed to export.

When #KumanPicturesChallenge7 was announced this year, I found myself wanting to work on another passion project after stepping away from making short films for quite some time. While searching for an idea, I unexpectedly stumbled upon a folder filled with my old, forgotten projects. One of them was this unfinished film.

Me doing horror? I never thought I could.

Watching it again reminded me of how much I loved filmmaking—and how often I let my pursuit of perfection get in the way. I would overthink every little detail, convincing myself that it was never good enough to share.

TAKE 23 is far from perfect, and I know that. But this time, I just wanted to have fun, finish something, and finally put it out into the world.

Instead of letting it stay forgotten, I decided to pay tribute to that unfinished film.

And that’s how 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝟐𝟑 was born.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬

𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝟐𝟑 follows Tsara and Saufi as they watch a friend’s unreleased short film. As Tsara slowly falls asleep, the night begins to take an unexpected turn.
