POSTS STORIES REELS

3pm → 5am.

Some pieces don’t let you sleep. No shortcuts. Just my full undivided attention for 14 hours nonstop.

This one’s for De La Soul, a group that brought color, imagination, and originality into hip-hop in a way no one else ever did.

Their sound shaped how I hear music. Their energy shaped how I see color.

So I had to translate that onto canvas.

Hip-hop needed them.
We still do.

Much love and respect always.

Some paintings take a while before you finally start them. This is one of those.

Been looking forward to painting this one for a long time.

Sharing a few progress moments from the studio (aka my living room) while the background comes together.

‘The Ink & The Wooden Board’

Acrylic on Canvas

This is where it all begins.

That which has been revealed from above the heavens to the Beloved (ﷺ) would cultivate the foundations for the great empires and civilizations yet to come.

The use of ink and wooden boards, as depicted in this piece, holds a profound significance in the Islamic intellectual tradition of North Africa and West Africa, contributing to the rich tapestry of Islamic civilization and history. In this venerable practice, students and scholars alike meticulously transcribed religious texts, scientific treatises, and philosophical works onto wooden boards using ink, exemplifying a profound dedication to preserving knowledge and committing it to memory.

The physical act of writing on these boards symbolizes the connection between intellect and material, fostering a deep engagement with the content. The resulting manuscripts are not merely repositories of information but artifacts that embody the intellectual vibrancy of Islamic scholarship that originated by way of divine revelation.

This traditional method of documentation has played a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual heritage of the region, serving as a conduit for the transmission of knowledge across generations and influencing the broader Islamic world.

The Islamic intellectual tradition, marked by a profound emphasis on learning, inquiry, and scholarship, laid the foundation for the intellectual bedrock that fueled the growth of great Islamic caliphates.

The flourishing of centers of learning, such as Baghdad, Cordoba, Qayrawan, and Cairo, became crucibles of innovation, where scholars from diverse backgrounds collaborated, contributing to the expansive strength of Islamic civilizations. This intellectual vibrancy not only elevated the empires culturally but also served as a driving force behind their military, economic, and diplomatic successes, leaving an enduring legacy that shaped the course of history.

This is where it all begins.

As I stood before this 4ft X 5ft blank canvas, I felt a mixture of excitement and anticipation. It’s been a year and a half since I last picked up my paint brush. Life happened and distractions arose. The artistic process is a delicate one that presents its own unique set of obstacles and challenges and I’m grateful to have been given the incredible opportunity to collaborate with @arasdean and bring our creative visions together on this project. Looking forward for what’s yet to come.

Kitsune scribbles

In ancient Japanese folklore, Kitsune (狐, キツネ), are intelligent foxes that possess paranormal abilities that increase as they get older and wiser. According to yōkai folklore, all foxes have the ability to shapeshift into human form. While some folktales speak of kitsune employing this ability to trick others – as foxes in folklore often do – other stories portray them as faithful guardians, friends, and lovers.

Came across this masjid in Orland Park in which the exterior architecture looks like the masjid in al-Quds (Jerusalem). May we one day see a liberated Palestine and pray in a free masjid al-Aqsa.
