Hi, I’m Sahir.

This is the story that’s shaped me.

Welcome. 💛

These beliefs have been shaped by my own journey…

and by the women I’ve had the privilege of meeting along the way.

If you saw yourself somewhere in those words…

You’re not alone.

This is where we stop surviving and start rebuilding.

Reconnect with Yourself.

Rebuild your Strength.

Rise with Confidence

Bismillah to November 🍂✨

My word for this month is ‘Connection’

After a year of recovery and finding my way back into my work, I’ve been so focused on projects, plans and everything I want to achieve.

But it’s easy to get caught up in the doing and forget about the being.

So this month, I’m making a conscious effort to reconnect with myself and with Allah.

After your relationship with Allah, the most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you have with yourself.

Nurture it.

Because every other relationship in your life is shaped by that one. 💛

A little end-of-October reflection 🍂

This month has had me reflecting on just how much can change in a year.

From the woman lying in that hospital bed to the woman I am today. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally and in the way I see myself and the world around me.

It’s been a year of healing, rediscovery, growth and learning to put myself back at the centre of my own life.

And here’s something I want you to remember.

When you’re in the middle of a difficult chapter, it can feel never-ending. You can’t always see beyond what you’re going through, let alone imagine what life might look or feel like on the other side.

But so much can change in a year.

And sometimes, it’s those prolonged periods of hardship that become the catalyst for our greatest growth.

We begin shedding old versions of ourselves, questioning what no longer serves us, discovering strengths we didn’t know we had and making space for something new.

Something more aligned with who we are and who we’re becoming. 💛

Today is World Surgical Menopause Day, and it marks exactly one year since I entered surgical menopause myself.

And what a journey it’s been!

Despite years of perimenopause and two years of medically induced menopause, nothing quite prepared me for the reality of surgical menopause.

The sudden hormonal changes, the physical and emotional impact, and navigating it all alongside recovery from major surgery have been challenging, to say the least.

But one thing this past year has reinforced is just how important awareness, education and support really are.

Surgical menopause can be a very different experience from natural menopause, and women deserve to be informed, prepared and supported every step of the way.

Here’s to more open conversations, greater understanding and better support for every woman navigating surgical menopause. 💛

There’s something incredibly powerful about being in a room full of women who aren’t just talking about change, but actively creating it.

That was my overwhelming feeling after attending the Muslim Women Shaping Britain roundtable at the Houses of Parliament.

An evening surrounded by Muslim women who are thought leaders, changemakers, founders, entrepreneurs and advocates, each contributing in their own way to shaping the world around them.

What struck me was not simply the breadth of talent and achievement in the room, but the stories behind them.

So many women had taken their own lived experiences, challenges and difficult chapters and turned them into something meaningful. Not only transforming the direction of their own lives, but creating opportunities, challenging barriers and making a difference for others.

Something that resonates deeply with my own journey of turning pain into purpose.

One conversation that particularly stayed with me was around vulnerability.

The courage to share our experiences, including the parts that aren’t polished or comfortable, and recognising that our vulnerability can become a source of connection, strength and encouragement for another woman.

Because sometimes, hearing another woman’s story is what gives you the confidence to begin rewriting your own.

A heartfelt thank you to @muslimwomenawards @shaistagohir for bringing together such an inspiring group of women and creating the space for these meaningful conversations.

When it comes to women’s health, the voices of women themselves need to be part of shaping the solutions.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being involved in a menopause Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) workshop at UCL, contributing to the development of a menopause education and support website being co-designed through UCL and Wellbeing of Women.

What made the day particularly valuable was the diversity of perspectives around the table.

Women from different backgrounds, with different experiences of menopause, alongside people bringing expertise from a range of professional fields.

The conversations were thoughtful, insightful and, at times, a reminder of just how differently menopause can be experienced and understood.

For me, it was an opportunity to contribute not only from my own lived experience of perimenopause, medical menopause and surgical menopause, but also from the experiences, questions and challenges shared with me by the many women I’ve supported and connected with through my work and platforms.

Because meaningful menopause education cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach.

It needs to be accessible, inclusive, representative and responsive to the realities of women’s lives.

And that starts with listening.

A huge thank you to Professor Joyce Harper, UCL, Wellbeing of Women and all the wonderful women involved for such an engaging and collaborative day.

It’s encouraging to be part of conversations where women’s experiences are helping shape the resources intended to support them. 💛

I can’t believe it’s been a year since my major surgery…

A total hysterectomy, extensive endometriosis excision, bowel resection and belly button reconstruction.

I couldn’t have anticipated just how much this past year would change me and teach me… About my body, recovery, my connection with myself and with others.

It’s made me reflect on how much of myself I’ve given away over the years. How often I’ve put my own needs, feelings and voice aside.
And in many ways, this has been a season of reclaiming that.

Learning to trust myself more deeply, own my voice, take up space and become more intentional about the life I want to live.

I’m not the same woman I was a year ago.

I’m still healing, still learning and still becoming. And there’s something incredibly liberating about that. 💛

There’s something quite extraordinary about reaching a stage in life where you begin to feel more comfortable in your own skin than you ever have before.

And I don’t think we talk about that enough.

So much of the conversation around women getting older focuses on what changes, what declines, what we lose.

Our bodies. Our hormones. Our appearance. Our fertility. Our youth.

And whilst those changes can be significant, particularly when menopause arrives through surgery, they are not the whole story of who we are or who we can become.

I’m 50. I’m a grandmother. I’ve lived with chronic illness, undergone a hysterectomy and entered surgical menopause.

Those experiences have challenged me physically, emotionally and in ways I’m still making sense of.

But they’ve also changed my perspective on what really matters.

I’ve become more discerning about whose opinions I value. More willing to trust my own judgement. More comfortable using my voice and less concerned with making myself acceptable to everyone.

And perhaps most importantly, I don’t see this chapter of my life through the lens of what I’ve lost but what I’ve gained….

Because there’s so much I’m still discovering about myself.

I don’t believe confidence is something that automatically comes with age. It comes through experience, reflection, making difficult decisions, challenging old beliefs and learning to love, trust and accept yourself.

And that process can be profoundly liberating.

We need a much broader conversation about what it means to be a woman in midlife and beyond. One that acknowledges the challenges without allowing them to define the entirety of our experience.

One where ageing isn’t automatically associated with becoming less visible, less desirable, less capable or less relevant.

Because there is still so much life to live, so much to contribute and so much of ourselves yet to discover.

At 50, I don’t feel as though I’m trying to reclaim the woman I used to be. I’m becoming more fully the woman I am.

And that, to me, is something worth celebrating. 💛

Life has a funny way of giving you exactly what you need even if it’s not what you want…..

Life lately….

I never realised till now how beautiful leaves are. by @saeempowercoaching

What if you’re not having a midlife crisis? What if it’s midli]fe clarity?

You’ve spent years being the dependable one.

The daughter who didn’t want to disappoint. The wife who kept things together. The mother who made sure everyone else’s needs were met.

And perhaps you’ve built a life you’re genuinely grateful for.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t parts of yourself you’ve neglected along the way.

Now you’re in your 40s or 50s and things that you once accepted without question don’t sit quite so comfortably anymore.

You’re questioning the expectations. The obligations. The relationships. Even the version of yourself you’ve spent years trying to be.

And sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing that you want something different.

It’s dealing with the guilt of wanting more when you’ve already got so much to be grateful for.

But gratitude and wanting more for yourself can exist together.

You can love your family and want more space for yourself.

You can appreciate the life you’ve built and still question how you want to live the next chapter.

And you can change without having to justify that change to everyone around you.

Maybe we need to stop calling it a crisis every time a woman decides her own life deserves some of her attention too.

Midlife clarity. I’m here for it. 🌶️

Does this resonate with where you are in life right now? 💛
