Introducing The Safarious Fund: where every safari makes a difference 🐾

At Safarious, we believe travel should create lasting impact—not just for travelers, but for the wild places and communities that make these journeys possible. That’s why we created The Safarious Fund, an initiative supporting conservation and community projects across Africa.

How does it work?
Every safari booked through Safarious automatically contributes a percentage of the total cost to our fund. This ensures each journey directly supports initiatives that protect Africa’s wildlife and empower local communities.

Our 2024 Focus: Women in Conservation
Last year, we focused on supporting women and girls in conservation—funding education and skills training while championing women-led conservation projects across Africa.

Stay tuned as we introduce some of the incredible recipients of the Safarious Fund over the next few weeks!

| WORLD GORILLA DAY |

Into the mist. Into the wild. Into a place where conservation, community and nature come together.

From the warmth and smiling faces of the local community to the misty forests of the Virungas, Rwanda has a way of leaving a mark on you.

At Singita Kwitonda, the mountains set the stage for one of Africa’s most extraordinary encounters - coming face to face with the mountain gorillas.

A silverback’s quiet gaze. Curious youngsters at play. And moments that feel almost impossible to describe.

It’s more than a gorilla experience. It’s a reminder of what can happen when wildlife and communities thrive together.

Some journeys stay with you long after you’ve left. Watching Ellen and Portia return to Rwanda, again and again, is a reminder of why this work matters.

Guided by our very own @mlorentz23, with @inyambo_travel bringing it all together on the ground, this is a journey we hold close to our hearts.

Through the Safarious Fund, a portion of every journey we plan supports @savinggorillas and the vital work being done to protect Rwanda’s mountain gorillas.

We feel incredibly privileged to play a small part in that story.

#repost from @ellendegeneres:

Portia and I are in Rwanda. The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund has seen over 100,000 visitors since we opened 4 years ago. I’ve had so many people come up to me that are visiting here from all around the world talking about how incredible the campus is and how incredible it is to see gorillas so close up in their element. I am very grateful to get to bring this kind of awareness and support for gorillas and Rwanda. It’s all possible because of @portiaderossi and the most incredible 60th birthday gift of all time.

Perched high above the N’wanetsi River in the heart of the Kruger National Park, Singita Lebombo is where contemporary design meets untamed wilderness.

Inspired by the dramatic Lebombo Mountains, the lodge’s striking architecture seems to float above the landscape, creating a seamless connection between luxury and nature. From unforgettable wildlife sightings to world-class cuisine, exceptional guiding, and breathtaking views, every moment here is designed to leave a lasting impression.

Adding to its accolades, Singita Lebombo was ranked No. 40 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 list and received the inaugural Johnnie Walker Art of Design Award, recognising its groundbreaking architecture and guest experience. #nature #design #singita #bespokesafaris #travel

During my time in Ethiopia, I traveled with a small group led by Michael Lorentz of @safarious to several tribes. We met and spent time engaging with the people to learn and appreciate how they lived and the struggles they endure.

This group - the Kara Tribe (or Karo tribe) - is a small indigenous ethnic group of roughly 1,000–3,000 people living along the east bank of the Omo River in Southern Ethiopia. Renowned as master body painters, they use white chalk, coal, and red clay to create intricate designs. They practice flood-retreat agriculture, cattle rearing, and the “bull jumping” coming-of-age ceremony.

This is one of many groups of people highlighted in my book. STORIES UNTOLD features a vibrant collection of people, places, and moments that I hope will spark curiosity and connection. The book is available now to order through the link in my bio.
