What a survivor experiences at SAFE goes far beyond shelter bed.

It's a good nights sleep because someone feels safe - sometimes for the first time in their life.
It's the comfort of a case manager who knows the complex needs of a family starting over, who shows up with groceries, school supplies, and support because healing is hard.
It's the reassurance offered from a SAFEline operator who talks someone through what safety planning looks like for their specific set of needs.
It's the joy of a permanent home where a survivor raises her grandson, breaking a cycle that had lasted generations.

Tonight, nearly 100 people are on SAFE's emergency shelter waitlist. Half of them are children.

SAFE operates the only two DV shelters in Austin and supports survivors with legal services, counseling, and advocacy so survivors can navigate their unique needs through an in-house network of specialized care.

In the Cornell case, we believe Jane Doe deserves safety, support, privacy, and a meaningful response from the institutions that failed her.

This case must not become just another headline that generates outrage before attention moves on.

“We, at The SAFE Alliance, urge our community to turn outrage into a sustained commitment to violence prevention. We must change what young people learn, what peers tolerate, and what institutions prioritize. We must measure accountability not just by how we respond to sexual violence after it happens, but by how we prevent it altogether.”

🚚🎃 Volunteers needed for Truck-or-Treat! 🎃🚚

Truck-or-Treat is coming to Q2 Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 24, and we need your help to make it a day families won’t forget! Thousands of kids and parents will come out in costume to explore big trucks, grab candy, do Halloween crafts and bounce around our Inflatable Zone.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with:

✅ Setup
✅ Lines and ticketing
✅ Kids’ activities
✅ Clean-up and more

You’ll get your role at the start of your shift, and we’ll take care of a complimentary lunch and drinks. 🌮🥤

Every hour you give helps raise money for kids and families impacted by violence. Proceeds from Truck-or-Treat support SAFE’s work to help survivors find safety, healing and a fresh start.

Good to know:

☀️ The event is entirely outdoors, so plan for several hours outside.

💜 This Thursday, October 15, Austin City Hall lights up purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

SAFE is grateful to the City of Austin for hosting this Wear Purple Day gathering to recognize all those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence. We’re proud to stand alongside our partners in this work to share resources and honor survivors.

Last year, SAFE served more than 5,000 survivors of violence. We know that visibility and support help survivors find the courage to come forward, tell their stories, get the help they need, and rebuild their lives.

🕡 6:30 PM: Resource Fair with 8 local agencies
💡 7:30 PM: City Hall lights up purple + speakers
🕗 8:00 PM: Event concludes

Today is the Day of Unity, observed on the first Monday of Domestic Violence Awareness Month- a day to remember lives lost to domestic violence, honor survivors, and stand together in our commitment to ending abuse.

Today, we remember lives lost to domestic violence around the world while honoring and sharing the stories of individuals from right here in Austin, Texas. Collected each year by the Texas Council on Family Violence, these stories remind us of the people behind the statistics- parents, children, friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose lives were taken far too soon.
