Months ago, a casting call for a show popped up on my feed with a message I deeply resonated with. I couldn’t audition for it initially due to conflicts with another contract I was working on. In January, I wondered how the show was doing, and lo and behold, not even a week later, all these colors flashed upon my screen again, with another casting call! Fast forwarding a little, I was offered the opportunity to portray a dream role I only thought possible in, idk, Jesus Christ Superstar?! Getting into the mind/body of, learning & speaking his language, and listening through how he may hear things has been wonderful to explore this last almost two months. After 170+ hours of sermons, I still conclude your way is better. After seeing behind the scenes acts of Great Love that wasn’t in the show at all, your way is better. After getting to trade in my sneakers for your sandals, Jesus, your way is better. The world we live in today, folks, has hardened a lot of hearts. It’s very unfortunate. As a pastor’s kid, I’ve always been expected to behave, speak, or feel differently than others and speak up for what’s RIGHT. (Don’t let that go over your head.) “What would Jesus do?” is much more than a sticker on a car or any old phrase. It’s a genuine question we must not only ask ourselves, but others too! I choose to love people because he first loved us. Church hurt sucks, and it’s very real. Depending on where you attend, it may not be a space that welcomes everyone the way Jesus Christ did. To those churches, I say: Lift love up—lay judgment down. To my friends who have experienced church hurt, forgive not to forget, but to release. Release so that you can make room to receive more life. Whether you are of a faith or not, I believe you’ll resonate in at least one verse: “If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.” - Matt. 10:14 This was not a Church play. This was not just any ensemble. This was a family decision: “I’m going where my spirit is fed.” Aka FTIGTC! Today, I lay “Church’s” validation to rest. As my uncle used to say, go and love somebody. by @sage__floyd

Been thinking about you recently, Junie. Sometimes my rib tat of you doesn’t do you enough justice. During this time of year I think about all the things I’ve tried to fix that I can’t/am not meant to, or that aren’t ready to be fixed yet. They’ll never know how much we’re willing to hurt to see everything else healed. When you stepped on that piece of C4 in the jungle, you didn’t die, you changed forms. Coming to the University of Alabama, I had goals. Goals you’d laugh at, if you knew me before Circus Smirkus and UA. I’m blessed to say those goals were smashed (thanks to my amazing friends & professors). Just know super senior year was one to remember, and all the glory goes to God. #firstgeneration #blackexcellence P.S. I’m going to grad school starting in the Fall!
