What a truly transformative experience! 🖤✨

I walked into this witch retreat not knowing just how profoundly it would impact me, and I walked away feeling more confident, empowered, and connected to my magick than ever before. 🔮

I learned so much, connected with so many incredible witches, and shared experiences and conversations that I will carry with me for years to come. The energy, wisdom, and sense of community were beyond anything I could have imagined.

And to top it all off, I experienced the most beautiful and meaningful Samhain celebration of my life! 🍂🕯️

I’m leaving with a deeper understanding of myself, renewed confidence in my power, and so much gratitude for the wonderful souls I met along the way.

Thank you so much @mysticwitchharmonyrose and @herbal_goddess_healing for this amazing experience 🌙💜

Blessed Samhain! 🖤 by @sageandserotonin

Did you know that even as a dual board-certified FNP and PMHNP, I still can’t practice psychiatry autonomously in Florida?

Two bills introduced in 2026 aimed to change that, but unfortunately, neither became law.

Here’s hoping 2027 brings progress toward full practice authority for PMHNPs! 💜

One of the most fascinating things about psychiatry is that diagnosing a mental health disorder isn’t always as straightforward as identifying an unusual belief.

Delusional disorder, particularly the grandiose type, raises some interesting questions about how we distinguish extraordinary beliefs from psychiatric symptoms.

And here’s the part I find especially fascinating: Cultural, religious, and spiritual context matters. A belief that seems completely irrational to one person may be deeply meaningful and widely accepted within another person’s community.

As psychiatric providers, our job isn’t to judge someone’s beliefs. It’s to understand them within the context of their life, culture, and mental health.

But it does leave me wondering… if Jesus returned today, would we recognize him, or would we diagnose him? 👀

Just a little psychiatry meets philosophy for your day. 💜

Educational content only. A diagnosis requires a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.

Benzos don’t just “calm your nerves.” Your brain actually adapts to having them around. 🧠

Benzodiazepines enhance GABA, one of the brain’s main calming or “braking” systems. With regular use, the brain can compensate by becoming less responsive to that calming signal.

That’s why suddenly stopping benzos after physical dependence develops can be dangerous. The medication disappears, but the brain’s braking system hasn’t fully readjusted yet. The result can be a surge of nervous system activity causing severe anxiety, tremors, insomnia, and in some cases, seizures.

This isn’t an anti-benzo post. Benzodiazepines have legitimate medical uses. It’s a know what you’re taking and why you’re taking it post. 💜

Never abruptly stop a benzodiazepine if you’ve been taking it regularly. Talk with your healthcare provider about what’s safest for you.

Hi, I’m Ashley 👋🏼🔮

I’m a Doctor of Nursing Practice and dual board-certified Family & Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who believes mental healthcare should look at the whole person—not just a list of symptoms.

I’m into science, evidence-based medicine, nervous system regulation, good sleep, movement, nutrition, spirituality, and maybe a little ✨modern alchemy✨ along the way.

Basically, I believe there’s room for both medicine and a little magick. 🌿💊🔮

So if you’d prefer to get your mental health advice from a woman who probably would’ve been burned at the stake a few hundred years ago…

Welcome. You’re in the right place. 🖤

ADHD isn’t about being lazy, unmotivated, or “just needing to focus.” 🧠

It’s a difference in how the brain regulates attention, motivation, impulses, and executive function.

Understanding what’s happening in the brain can help remove some of the shame people with ADHD have carried for years. 💜

And medication? It’s not meant to change who you are—it can simply help your brain better regulate the signals that help you start, focus, prioritize, and follow through.

✨ Education only. ADHD looks different for everyone, and treatment should always be individualized with a qualified healthcare provider.

Sleep isn’t just “turning your brain off” for the night. 🌙🧠

While you sleep, your brain is doing some pretty important housekeeping—supporting memory, learning, emotional regulation, and processes involved in clearing metabolic waste.

Research has also found an association between chronic poor sleep and cognitive decline and dementia. That doesn’t mean a few restless nights are damaging your brain or that poor sleep causes dementia. The relationship is complex, appears to go both ways, and is still being studied.

But one thing is clear: sleep is part of taking care of your brain, not time wasted. 💜

So tonight, maybe give yourself permission to close the laptop, put down the phone, and get some rest. Your brain has work to do. 😴
