Be yourself. Do your thing. Keep your scene free of purist mentalities and bully culture.

DIY spaces should be a refuge from the violent, toxic masculine, homophobic/transphobic, “tough guy” bullshit that dominates the outside world.

It should be a space where we celebrate differences, look out for each other, and treat everyone with dignity and respect.

If you’re not for that, then you’re just another meathead asshole posing as a punk.

Here’s a song about it.

Swallowtail Blues has been out in the world for almost two weeks. My life has been so busy I haven’t been able to think about it much. But I wanted to share a little back story on it.

New years 2021, I was in a dark place. I’d been dealing with severe depression/identity crisis almost monthly. I was very unhappy with my life on a daily level and artistically.
I had been for a few years and was struggling to figure out why. Seemingly, I had the life I’d always wanted, and had opportunity knocking at my door. And yet, I was regularly fighting thoughts of ending my life, just to get the pain and confusion to stop. I decided to stop, drop everything and make my health/wellness top priority. Because I was scared. I’d dealt with suicidal thoughts before, but rarely like this before. Despite confusion and criticism around me, I cancelled all gigs I had booked, and sat down my guitar for almost six months, outside of a handful of sessions picking around for fun. One of those times, this song came to me. Came out of me, I should say. As a man, recognizing/acknowledging our feelings/weaknesses is extremely difficult. But one particularly beautiful sunny morning, I found the courage to let go, and open my heart to the universe and a prayer came out. This song was that prayer. In hindsight, I can see how I was attempting to toss a ladder down the hole and show my inner self the way out. Although, I was not conscious of it until I was listening back to the phone demo I cut(hallelujah). Since then, this song has been a guiding light, a permission to change and grow into something more beautiful, leading me back to center. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it. With this Sage Dog project, I plan to let the sound wander where it wants, but this song, I knew had to be the first. I hope that if you’re struggling to find center, or can’t feel the ground beneath your feet, this song can provide you the warmth, and the guidance that I’ve found in it. Some songs you write, but this song was given to me, and so it’s not mine, but ours. Thanks for listening ❤️ by @sagedogmusic

The first single is here!

I wrote this song in a dark place, reaching for the light. Since writing it, it’s been a rock to stand on in times of confusion and struggle. It is a constant reminder that self love, and love in general is the path. I hope it can serve you the way it serves me. ❤️✌🏻

Hello and welcome,

I’ve started this project, Sage Dog, with the intention of its music, it’s little community, and it’s live shows, being spaces committed to honesty, vulnerability, and connectivity. The soul of this project, to me, feels much bigger than myself. As I wander and listen, translate and broadcast, letting this go where it wants, I hope you’ll follow along..
and can feel it the way I do.
