EXP EP.03 A personal note from Haetam A. (@elesan.cc) “I first went to Ekas in Southeast Lombok in 2022. Aside from surfers swarming the area when the waves are perfect, Ekas is rarely attracting visitors since it’s one of the hottest areas on the island, lacking comfortable facilities, et cetera. Ekas is quiet; a perfect sanctuary whenever I needed to isolate myself from the world (being comfortable on your own is criminally underrated). Countless off-road networks, surreal and empty beaches (which make them free of trash), cliffs that make you feel insignificant; stunning, challenging, noiseless. Riding in Ekas, you will struggle to keep on going, possibly for hours. But if you explore the area a bit further, you will find a spot that hits you deeply. I have had that feeling a couple of times. Until I didn’t. Maybe because I tried too hard to look for it. On this particular ride, I felt it again. I smiled a lot, I noticed the look of awe in @fahim_ossa and @fahriayie’s eyes, the heat didn’t bother me as much; the feeling inhabited me once again. This ride was a special one. Ekas is fucking special. Keep your sunscreen within reach.” Sponsored by @knog @apidura @oceanandsan @quocshoes 📸 @vickysavema by @sahel.exp

EXP EP.02 A loop from West to East Lombok. A race that wasn’t there. Resonating kindness. Rice fields everywhere—near harvest season; simply idyllic. Heat. More heat. More hellos. More singletracks. Far from modern luxuries. This is as simple as it can get. Bare Lombok, the island as it is. A privilege to have to experience this ride. There are so many ways to approach cycling. Coffee rides. Solitary pondering. A reason to bring the camera out. A form of therapy to some. A way of being in nature for most. To see the world. Abroad, or in your own hometown — we’re taking the latter rather seriously. No specific formula or guidelines to box us in. But the mission is clear; three cyclists showing and celebrating Lombok Island, our hometown, as a cycling destination on its own terms while documenting the routes worth returning to. Lombok is a relatively small island, and we’re seeing that as an advantage; volcano to beach in the space of an afternoon. Enough for a great adventure, no matter the distance. We’ll be out there very, very soon. SAHEL.EXP (Expedition) is formed under @sahel__cc, a bicycle maintenance shop once adventure hub based in Lombok, exists to document routes, visuals, and stories around the island and beyond.
