Getting this film to Cannes film festival was easy. It was hard to get through the realest, most challenging rollercoaster ride of a process. This has been my guru pariksha. Another frame from our long-take studio practical at FTII. For this shot, we built a large overhead soft source to shape the space the way the director imagined it. We used a 10×10 Ultra Bounce and a 12×12 Chimera cloth together. Ultra Bounce is a reflective fabric (white, high-output) that allows light to be bounced back into a scene while keeping it soft but present. The light was first thrown into the Ultra Bounce, and that reflected light then passed through the Chimera cloth. The Chimera cloth works as diffusion. It spreads the light, reduces contrast, and removes hard shadows, making the source feel very large and enveloping. Placing this setup above the set gave us an even, top-lit environment where the light didn’t call attention to itself. This mood was very important to the director’s vision for this space. The intention was to create a quiet, suspended atmosphere — almost clinical, detached, and emotionally neutral — where the performance and blocking could exist without dramatic lighting cues. The softness and uniformity of the light helped the space feel contained and controlled, which suited the tone of the scene and allowed the long take to play out without lighting changes. taken in Film & Television Institute of India by @sai.sanjay22
