Excited for the Arab premiere of Coyotes at the Red Sea Film Festival! Following a fantastic debut in Venice, the film has already become BAFTA-qualified (for 2027) thanks to its Best Short Film win at BFI London — and the momentum hasn’t stopped. In just three months, Coyotes has been selected for 27+ festivals worldwide, picking up major awards including Best Short Film at the BFI London Film Festival, Calgary IFF, and a Special Mention at AFI Fest. December was a blur. Too much travel. Too many airports. Three continents. Weather whiplash. I’m deeply grateful to have received the Golden Yusr for Best Short Film at the Red Sea International Film Festival. With extreme nervousness, I stammered my way through a speech. And if that wasn’t enough, a week later Coyotes took home the Tanit d’Argent at the Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia, marking the fifth award for this short film since its premiere last September at the Venice Film Festival. I celebrate these awards with my creative collaborators. Coyotes would not exist without their indefatigable efforts. They are: Myriam Sassine, Laura Jumel, Maria Zreik, Ali Suliman, Yumna Marwan, Rula Nasser, Simone D’Arcangelo, Matthieu Taponier, Ghaith Al-Adwan, Rana Eid, Roger Waters, Flavia Zanon, Frank Barat, Petra Ivanyi, Sophie Heard, Ingrid Lill Høgtun, Yousef Abed Alnabi, Aseel Abu Ayyash, Amin Goudarzi, Nour Halawani, Florent Lavallée, Hosni Al-Baqa, and many others. What a whirlwind of a week. It was an honour to be part of the 69th BFI London Film Festival and win Best Short Film. Thanks to the festival and the jury for recognizing our efforts. Coyotes is a labour of love from a truly magnificent filmmaking team. I’m always indebted to my phenomenal cast, producers, and crew. Here’s what the jury had to say: “Coyotes quietly opens a door into a psychological state of fear faced by people caught in the midst of conflict; a fear that cuts through the everyday atrocities witnessed by those watching publicly from outside. We are proud to announce Shorts Block 2: Emergence! The block is on Friday, October 2 at 4:30PM at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (@jmkac). Ebbing and flowing through joyfulness and urgency, turmoil and tranquility, this selection of short films is an opportunity to process the emotional complexities of our shared existence.
