POSTS STORIES REELS
Hello 2026!! Going on a lil tour this spring and looking for opening acts in each city. Tag a band/artist who you think rules and would benefit from playing to a new audience. Any genre any gender any age any experience level, just good music ✨ by @saidthewhale
The first time we did this it took us 2.5 months in an ‘89 Chevy Van that broke down twice. Times have changed, but now I have a tattoo of that van on my arm AND we have about 150 more songs to squeeze onto the set list… So come out and celebrate 20 years of Said The Whale!!! General on sale is this Friday, presale code for today(Wed) is STW20 💙🚙🎸 by @saidthewhale
An impromptu in-studio music video for ‘Never Grow Up’ shot and edited by King @stevebays! It’s so fun making music with that dude!!! You’ll prob pick up that vibe when you watch this. New sweet studio benefit is his partner @drewtaylor.ink happens to be an incredible tattoo artist so sometimes you can get a tattoo while making a song, which is awesome imo. Please enjoy this vid, comment/like/subscribe, share the song with a friend, blast it all weekend, dress up as Steve Bays for Halloween, etc. Thanks everyone, we really appreciate you 🩵🦈🍕 by @saidthewhale
Why only one weekend 😭😭😭 One month countdown 🏔️ @x929calgary by @saidthewhale
Extremely belated 💙THANK YOU💙 to everyone who came out to our 20th Anniversary shows last month. Six perfect nights!! Very grateful to have filled these rooms with so many people who travelled long distances to see their millionth STW show, AND those who came out to see us for their FIRST time. That’s the good stuff right there. 📸: @nick.marinac.media by @saidthewhale
Vancouver!! We are nice and warm from Victoria, and ready for you tonight. SOLD OUT but def worth checking last minute door tickets. Set times: @bluejayvalleyband - 8pm STW - 9pm by @saidthewhale
20 years of press shots!!! Honestly I’ve always dreaded press shot day more than any other day of being in a band. Put me in a van for 14 hours, make me carry a bass rig up 8 flights of outdoor fire escape stairs in the winter, but please do not tell me to look cool or natural in front of a camera. LUCKILY, we have been blessed to work with some of the most amazing and talented photographers in the country who have not only made us look good, but also somehow managed to make each photoshoot experience be - dare I say it - actually enjoyable ☺️ Hey also guess what?? Our 20th Anniversary tour is almost all sold out. So grab tix while you can! I think Vancouver just released a small handful of extra tickets, too (I guess they moved a few chairs and freed up some space, idk). Dates below👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4/10 • Victoria, BC @ Capital Ballroom (🚨low tix) 4/11 • Vancouver, BC [SOLD OUT] 4/12 • Lake Country, BC @ Creekside Theatre (🚨low tix) 4/16 • Calgary, AB @ Commonwealth (🚨low tix) 4/17 • Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room [SOLD OUT] 4/18 • Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace [SOLD OUT] by @saidthewhale
Our best music video ever? Lured all our friends to the video shoot with multiple kegs of beer, danced like nobody was watching, and endeared our band to the furry community🐻🐱 Spotted: @danmanganmusic cuddling a bear and rocking the uke, now- @exclaimdotca editor @chippedhip moshing with furries, @jpthemaurice doing a keg stand, members of @heyoceanband , @ibreedbyspores (I think) with the airborne diving tackle on Spencer at the end… Important learnings: when the only line-items on the budget are “beer” and “furry suits”, you cannot fail ✅ 20th Anniversary Tour kicks off next week and I guess all these posts must actually be working because there are legitimately not very many tickets left for any of these shows. Come hang!! 4/10 • Victoria, BC @ Capital Ballroom (low tix) 4/11 • Vancouver, BC [SOLD OUT] 4/12 • Lake Country, BC @ Creekside Theatre (low tix) 4/16 • Calgary, AB @ Commonwealth (low tix) 4/17 • Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room (18 tix left) 4/18 • Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace [SOLD OUT] #stw20 by @saidthewhale
The early days of content creation! Shout out iMovie for the slick edit. Nobody told us to film this and we didn’t have to post it 3x/day on musical.ly. This is just some lazy some old footage of us recording the “Howe Sounds” portion of Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia at @verticalstudios with producer @tom_dobrzanski at the board. Pre-Jayce (👋🏻 @iamdaggerss). Pre Lincoln (👋🏻Jeff LaForge). 20th Anniversary Tour takes flight next week!! Minimal tix remain: 4/10 • Victoria, BC @ Capital Ballroom (sorta low tix lol) 4/11 • Vancouver, BC [SOLD OUT] 4/12 • Lake Country, BC @ Creekside Theatre (low tix) 4/16 • Calgary, AB @ Commonwealth (low tix) 4/17 • Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room (low tix) 4/18 • Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace [SOLD OUT] #STW20 by @saidthewhale
Our first ever music video, composed of hundreds of still photos painstakingly put together by @andy.dxn, who did all the visuals for the first almost-decade of our band’s existence. Half of this was shot in Spencer’s back alley (proximity to the drums in his garage), and the other half shot at our friend Jon’s apartment while we were on tour in Toronto during a time when transferring 500 raw photos back to Vancouver over the internet felt like a near-impossible feat and we were 🤏🏻*this* close to just mailing a hard drive across the country. This was also a time before personalized algorithms existed - when we released this video, the popular video sharing website www.YouTube.com had a fairly large editorial team who would choose which videos to feature on the home page of the site. With a bit of luck and a healthy dose of ‘07 Hustle™️, we managed to get our video featured on that home page. It quickly racked up a couple hundred thousand views, and eventually led to YouTube flying us out to Toronto to play the song at a gala event for “creators” (though I’m 100% sure nobody called them “creators” back then). The DIY success of this video and the momentum it built for us may have also been one of the reasons why @perezhilton responded to our email and posted our band on the front page of HIS website, again, during that magical time when actual human beings with their own unique human taste curated the popular websites that everyone looked at. What a time!!! Also shoutout @catpictures for riding a polar bear in this video. Hard to believe that’s not AI, damn 😌 #STW20 20th Anniversary Tour: 4/10 • Victoria, BC @ Capital Ballroom 4/11 • Vancouver, BC [SOLD OUT] 4/12 • Lake Country, BC @ Creekside Theatre (low tix) 4/16 • Calgary, AB @ Commonwealth 4/17 • Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room (low tix) 4/18 • Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace [SOLD OUT] by @saidthewhale
Tour setlist requests?? Let’s hear ‘em. We’ve released 163 songs over the past 20 years and we literally can’t play them all. #STW20 4/10 • Victoria, BC @ Capital Ballroom 4/11 • Vancouver, BC @ Hollywood Theatre [SOLD OUT] 4/12 • Lake Country, BC @ Creekside Theatre 4/16 • Calgary, AB @ Commonwealth 4/17 • Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room 4/18 • Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace [SOLD OUT] by @saidthewhale
TOUR UPDATE: very excited to share support acts for each of our upcoming shows, and to slap a couple obnoxious SOLD OUT stamps on top of Vancouver and Toronto. Assume that means “low tix alert” for the rest of the gigs. See you in a few weeks!’ 4/10 • Victoria, BC w/ @silverware_band 4/11 • Vancouver, BC w/ @bluejayvalleyband 4/12 • Lake Country, BC w/ @bunch_of_others 4/16 • Calgary, AB w/ @sunglaciers 4/17 • Edmonton, AB w/ @monksoncall 4/18 • Toronto, ON w/ @byeparula by @saidthewhale
