Lahooti Aman Melo, Larkano

On World Peace Day, thousands gathered not only to watch performances, but to listen across differences. This has always been Lahooti’s purpose: to bring folk custodians and contemporary icons, villages and cities, inherited traditions and new expressions onto one shared stage.

From Shafqat Amanat Ali, Quratulain Balouch, Faris Shafi and The Sketches to Ustad Noor Bakhsh, Fakir Zulfiqar, Master Wali, Tahir Mithu and Farzana Bahar; from Larkano’s own Ashiq and Musadique Nizamani to Bhagat Jawaharlal, Mola Bux Faqeer and their sang, every artist carried a different story, yet the night belonged to everyone.

Peace is not only something we speak about. It is something we practise through listening, recognition and the spaces we create for one another. Music may not solve everything, but it can bring people into the same rhythm and sometimes, that is where peace begins.

This morning @rind_farooq sent me this beautiful old clip featuring our song “Neend Ki Naiyya” and @sajalaly 😊

I think this was either Farooq’s first drama serial, or at least our first time working together, when he picked our song for his drama. Later came “Sapna Sapna” for the same @humtvpakistan and @moomalproductions.official and that remains our last collaboration so far.

Watching this today brought back so many memories, so I felt like sharing it with you all. The nostalgia of Kotri Bridge, the Indus River, and that time in our lives. ♥️

And interestingly, both songs somehow carry the same world - Neend/Nind and Sapna. Sleep and dreams. 😊

“There’s no peace without freedom.” - Saif Samejo, encouraging the women at Lahooti Aman Melo to sing, dance and take up space freely.

The Sketches performed “Sahando Ker Mayar”, carrying Shaikh Ayaz and Ibrahim Munshi’s revolutionary words into Lahooti Aman Melo. The line: “Who will bear this, oh friend?” comes from a poem that became a rallying cry in Sindh during the resistance to One Unit and the military rule of Ayub Khan.

Decades later, the words still resonate. As Sindh continues to assert its identity, rights and sovereignty through peaceful resistance, music and art remain part of its collective voice.

At Lahooti, peace has never meant silence. It means the freedom to sing, dance, question, dissent and belong.

To all those who believe managing a crowd at a concert is tough: have you heard of Pakistan’s biggest entertainment platform, @lahootimelo , the brainchild of the visionary @saifsamejo ?

Lahooti has just stepped into its teens and has only grown bigger, bolder and better with time.

There are no bad concerts, only bad management. And Karachi and Lahore have both witnessed what happens when crowd management takes a back seat.

Lahooti, on the other hand, has turned thousands of people into a community, brought them together through music and folk, and shown that a massive crowd can be managed with discipline, planning and, most importantly, respect for the audience.
