One of the biggest reasons for we decided to sail the world was the opportunity to explore our incredible planet, visit new places and experience what the world has to offer… so if we aren’t onboard or under water then we’re adventuring on land! 👣 🌎

It’s so awesome to have so many new people following along with our world adventure, so we thought we’d do a little reintroduction! 👋 👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻 🌊

We’re Morgan and Stephen, and we left our home island of Guernsey in August to begin our adventure of sailing the world! After meeting teaching sailing in 2011 and working on private yachts for many years, it is so special to be living our dream 🌎

Nesina is a Moody 42 Ketch c/c built in 1979, and over the last year we fully refitted her… all new wiring, plumbing, batteries and power system, solar, engine, rigging and more… other than the hull and the two masts its all new! More on that coming soon!

We are already having the most amazing time, and are so excited to see what the future holds… thank you for coming along for the adventure too 🫶🏼🥹⛵️🩵

Mission: Madeira 🇵🇹 ➡️ Canary Islands 🇮🇨…. 269.8nm ✔️

From spicy sailing, to mirror glass waters, to stunning sunrises and catching another (much larger) mahi… our sail was fast, exciting and so so much fun.

There really is something so calming and present about it just being you, your boat and the ocean.

Atlantic Ocean… we’re coming for you! 🌊⛵️🌎

Madeira, the island that has it all! 🌴⛰️🍌🌿

From dramatic mountains to colourful produce, cascading waterfalls and kind locals, the island truly impressed us. We loved getting into the mountains and enjoying such varied hikes, as well as daily swims and tasting some local food and drinks. It was made even more special by meeting some lovely new friends 🥹

Obrigada e tchau… now it’s time to continue our sail around the world ⛵️👣 🌎

Ilha Dourada, the Golden Isle, otherwise known as Porto Santo 🇵🇹 🌞

After 8 days at sea we were rewarded with golden sands, turquoise seas, balmy temperatures, delicious pastel de natas, fresh OJ, beautiful nature and some fab new friends! A truly beautiful place to stop and recharge.

We left our mark… turns out it’s harder to paint on a rough wall than we expected!

Next up… Madeira! 🩵⛵️🌎

Step one of preparing for a global cruising expedition: a full refit with ropes you can rely on!

Stephen & Morgan @sailingnesina have refitted their 1979 yacht, Nesina, to prepare for their global Explorer expedition around the globe.

They chose over 500 metres of Marlow ropes, including our industry-leading Doublebraid rope for the refit. Their story is an inspiration and reminder that turning a dream into reality starts with a refit you can trust and rely on.

8 days and 1,092.2nm from France, across the Bay of Biscay and down to Porto Santo, Madeira ✔️ 🇵🇹

From strong winds and 4m swells, to a whale, dolphins, sunfish, starfish, mahi mahi and more. We really were spoilt on this passage! 🐠🐬🐋⛵️

The air is warmer, the sea is bluer and our hearts are happier…

Porto Santo, we are ready to explore (after a big sleep…)! 👣

“FISH ON” on the final day of our 8 day passage (and the only day we have fished!). The 3m following sea added a little spice to the event!

The first catch on our world adventure and the perfect size of mahi for the two of us 🐠

Leaping into the next part of our adventure with dolphins 🐬✨

We are now on Day 2 of our Bay of Biscay crossing as we head south. This passage is known to be a bit of a cauldron for bad weather with the Atlantic weather systems typically culminating in the Bay, which also changes from 4,000m to 100m of depth quite quickly. This can lead to some rather unpleasant sea states and very windy conditions, especially as we get later into the season and lose the Azores high 💨🌊

However after monitoring weather forecasts we think we have picked a short window of weather to get us across the Bay… accompanying dolphins were truly the magical cherry on top! 🥹⛵️🌎
