I love HBCU’s. Deep. So it was such a pleasure to speak about my Howard experience at the Los Angeles #hbcuspringcoming this year. Homecoming is my favorite holiday but #hbcuspringcoming has found a special place on my calendar because we aaaaaaaallllll get to be one big HBCU family. Today marks the second time I’ve been back in a church since last summer. I couldn’t take it the first time. Not like I just didn’t like it- I had to walk out to keep from screaming. My body literally could not handle all the praising and joy when so much of me was… stale? Brittle? Cold 🤔🤔Angry? All of the above. What a bittersweet junction today is…to KNOW the tailored “just for my hurt” resurrection/restoration power of Christ. The last two years have met me with major surgery, hormonal imbalance, job loss, loss of a sibling, grief, parental sickness and a breakup. I’m still working through my emotions but today I was happy to have been reminded that He is Risen and a living Comforter In the still of the night when I’m alone with my broken heart. Thank you Holy Spirit for your love, power to restore and your unmatched ability to provide just what I need when I need it. I have no idea what the future holds but what I do know, in a visceral , non- negotiable way, is joy will not be compromised for anyone or anybody. I’m in the pocket where “I like me Now”, I like who I’m becoming” and “How can I make those versions of myself, someone God is pleased with” converge. I’m grateful for clarity, covering and an ever deepening understanding of what it means to walk by faith. 💜💜🕊️🕊️ by @saintcyrly

This past Saturday, my baby brother passed away at 38 years old. I haven’t had the words for this kind of gut punch but what I can say is the overwhelming love and support has brought so many tears of gratitude amidst the pain. Tuesday, this group of people held an impromptu worship potluck at our home, filling it with songs of praise and covering our family in prayer. “I prayed for you, you prayed for me… we’re all apart of Gods body…You are important to me…I need you to survive.” 😭😭😭Amen. Every call, text, donation, food drop off… it’s literally you wrapping your arms around us. My Dad said it best- seeing how loved we are during this situation has really turned beauty for our ashes. Thank you… I can’t say it enough. Thank you💜💜🙏🏾🙏🏾 (shout to the musician who was able to play our decades old out of tune piano lol) by @saintcyrly
