If past lives are a thing then my clothing choices make me wonder if I may have worked in a high end Victorian brothel😆. And given that these bloomers are an actual relic from the 1800s I might even be wearing my old work uniform🙃

On a serious note, doing this shoot with @saintjsj has me reflecting on the ways that creative women have often had to choose between being seen as respectable or seen as “fallen”. During the Victorian era, a woman with creative drive had to walk a tightrope between performance and scandal. Challenging the status quo of wife and motherhood meant being labelled a harlot by default. Singing, dancing, acting and sex work were considered cousin occupations because they were all seen as a woman selling her physical presence for the entertainment of men. Because of this, many brilliant artists were overlooked.

So here’s to those forgotten rebels who risked being seen as “fallen women” because their dreams were too big for the constraints of the society that they lived in. ♥️🙏♥️

Track is “Haunted” from The Girl Who Stayed Lost on The Woods.👻
