A Wonderful Autumn Day In The Garden

The Junior School Gardening Club, one of our Amplified Learning opportunities, provides students with the chance to dig, plant, water, explore, and grow in a hands-on outdoor learning environment. Last Wednesday, the students gathered and enjoyed some beautiful moments in the garden. They harvested mint they had grown and made fresh mint tea. They also cleared some of the fall foliage from their planting area and added another checkmark to their Gardening Club meeting cards. One highlight was seeing who could find the biggest mint leaves! by @saintsbc

More Highlights of Senior School Orange Shirt Day

We were honoured to welcome Mr. Felix G. ’22 from the Musqueam Nation back to the Senior School as a guest speaker during our Orange Shirt Day Assembly. Willem U. ’27, School Captain, and Sam M. ’27, Deputy School Captain, introduced our special guests, including Felix, who shared about his grandfather’s painful experience and lifelong trauma as a Residential School Survivor.

Thank you, Felix, for bravely sharing your family’s story. Your openness gave us all a chance to listen, reflect, and deepen our understanding. by @saintsbc

Reflections On Truth And Reconciliation

Yesterday, students, staff, and faculty across the Junior and Senior Schools gathered to recognize Orange Shirt Day. We were honoured to welcome two special guests: Eli Gosselin-Rattlesnake, an Anishinaabe Hoop Dancer from Valley River First Nations in Treaty 4 Territory, Manitoba, and a Second Generation Residential School Survivor, alongside Pavel Desjarlais, a Plains Cree Powwow Dancer from Fort McKay, Treaty 6 Territories, who is dedicated to sharing his knowledge of song and dance as well as passing along teachings from his family, friends, and elders.

Eli and Pavel’s stories and moving performances reminded us of the strength, resilience, and hope found in culture and community, and our responsibility to listen, learn, and support one another on the path to reconciliation.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we take time to reflect on the history and ongoing impact of residential schools, honour the children who never returned home, Survivors, their families and communities, and consider our shared responsibility in the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Legacy — Father & Sons

Derek T. ’01 with Tony ’38 and Jake ’39: Some of Derek’s closest friendships began at St. George’s School and are still among his most important today. He hopes his boys find the same kind of friendships, stay close to each other, and along the way, grow comfortable taking on hard challenges — even when the outcome isn’t certain. And, of course, spend plenty of time playing in the forest! by @saintsbc
