Join Xenia Concerts and saugaLIVE on October 18th at the Living Arts Centre for an adaptive concert featuring Charlotte Tang, fortepiano!

Sunday, October 18th from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Living Arts Centre
4141 Living Arts Drive, Mississauga

Hear the piano as it once was—intimate, expressive, and alive.
How did music sound 200 years ago? Step into a 19th-century drawing room and experience the piano as audiences once did—rich with imagination, nuance, and human connection. Performed on a historical fortepiano, this immersive concert brings to life beloved works by Chopin, Schubert, Liszt, Beethoven, Clara Schumann, and more.

Audience members are invited to draw and respond creatively throughout the performance, making this concert a shared artistic experience.

The performance is led by award-winning fortepianist Charlotte Tang, whose performances are shaped by deep research into the expressive possibilities of early pianos. A laureate of the 2024 Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges and recipient of the 2025 Early Music America Emerging Artist Award, Tang reveals colours, textures, and emotional nuance rarely heard on modern instruments.

Visit the link in our bio to RSVP.

Scent-Free & No Food Concert

To help keep this concert safe and accessible for everyone, we kindly ask that you do not wear scented products or bring food into the concert. This includes perfume, cologne, heavily scented lotions, body sprays, all forms of food and or other fragranced personal care products. Members of our staff and performers have severe scent and food allergies.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us create an inclusive and welcoming concert experience for all.

A little #bts

As a fortepianist, a big part of concert prep was to prepare the instrument! I remember being so happy with all the tunings and regulation done at around 1am. Then there came a light pop when I put the action back 🥲

The silver linings are that I’m friends with pliers now, and picked up the valuable skills of opening kapsuls and swapping hammers!

Thanks to the best tech team @keyboardkween @oscar_jyc and Andy Adams, the piano is nursed back to good health and ready for its next appearance in the GTA on Oct 18.

Banff

When I first went to Banff in 2024, I was in a little rut.. Writing wasn’t going very well. And I didn’t know what to do with my life. For whatever miraculous reasons, I got to do this 3-week residency, and I remembered being so inspired and encouraged by what the faculty and fellow musicians-in-residence were doing! It was such a life-giving experience, and it showed me it was possible to be a fortepianist!

It’s such a full circle moment.. I’m so so grateful to be back for my album recording this week. All the people and conversations, the relentless strive for artistry, the most sensitive instrument and space. And the mountains!!

Thank you for having me!! My heart is so full!

Enschede — Zaandijk — Utrecht — Apeldoorn — Amsterdam

My first @oudemuziek! A huge honour to be part of one of the biggest early music festivals internationally. And to play on instruments from Edwin Beunk’s Collection.. what a treat! Overwhelmed with gratitude to have the host of my first fortepiano masterclass performance in the audience!!

This trip just made me really wanna move to Europe 😶 all the beautiful friendships, conversations, concerts, and pianos!

When do you ever listen to Byrd’s mass with 500 other people? When do you ever see a Zumpe piano? And when do you ever get 15+ hours on a 200-year-old piano?

So good to see many old friends and meet new people!! Had a great time at the Sociable Fortepiano Mini-Residency by @y_yiheng and @patricia_garcia_gil! Absolutely impressed by everyone’s creativity and passion! This was one of those workshops you walked away feeling you’ve learnt so so much! Missing all the beautiful people and convos!!

Outside of that.. I had so much fun revisiting favourite places with my one and only!! NY Public Library, bagels, sunset on Roosevelt island, late night strolls along 5th Av, also commuting on PATH again.. and first time in Columbia University! (lol can’t believe it myself, an MSM alum)

Grateful!! by @salad0706

Four months late.. But here’s to the best times and people in Banff!

Swipe right for proof that the modern pianist is still alive hahaha

———————————————————
It’s been such an inspiring journey every time in Banff! This time has many firsts: playing with lights to create music, aurora-chasing in deep winter with so many friends, and performing/recording some really fun new music.

So so grateful for all the guidance and mentorship! Walking into 2025-26 quite excited but also a little lost..how do I know what I am good at, and perhaps more importantly, how do i stay afloat (and sane..) in this big big world. I am encouraged to see myself in a new light, as an artist and not an imposter! It’s liberating and the most transformative experience again!!

Thank you for everything! 🏔️ taken in Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity by @salad0706
