Salamander Street + Wordville: independent publishing across theatre, performance, memoir, music and culture.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
25 years on, the story of The Strokes’ extraordinary beginnings is still making headlines.

A great new interview in MusicRadar sees legendary producer Gordon Raphael reflecting on the early days of The Strokes, the making of their groundbreaking debut album Is This It, and the extraordinary moment when a band and producer captured a sound that would help redefine guitar music.

For the full story, Gordon's hugely entertaining memoir The World Is Going To Love This: Up From the Basement with The Strokes takes readers behind the mixing desk and into the studios, clubs and creative chaos of the New York music scene.

An essential read for anyone who loves The Strokes, music production and the stories behind the records.

Read the MusicRadar interview and discover Gordon's memoir, The World Is Going To Love This, published by Wordville.

Small town. Big trouble. And absolutely no idea what happens next.

We're buzzing to announce the forthcoming publication of Little Town Blue by Red Biscuit — a wildly funny, fast-paced and gloriously chaotic new play that's heading to London's Pleasance Theatre this November.

Described by The Review Hub as “unfailingly hilarious”, Little Town Blue promises outrageous characters, sharp comedy and plenty of unexpected twists.

Pre-orders are now open on the Salamander Street website, so get your copy ordered ahead of publication.

And if you're in London this November, get along to see the show.

“Well, ma name is The Loch Ness ‘Monster’… but I prefer Nessie.”

One of eight plays in QUEER PLAYS, VOLUME ONE, Hannah McGregor's NESS is a gloriously strange encounter between Em, a young non-binary person, and Nessie—an ancient being with excellent timing, sharp patter and plenty to say.

Blending a queer coming-of-age story, Scottish myth, Gaelic, grief, humour and monster folklore, NESS asks what it means to be seen, named and recognised... especially when the world keeps trying to tell you what you are.

Originally presented at an A Play, A Pie and A Pint production at Òran Mór, NESS now appears in QUEER PLAYS, VOLUME ONE, our anthology of Scottish LGBTQ+ drama.

We are very sorry to hear of the death of Adam Lenson.

Adam was a much-loved theatre director, theatre-maker and passionate advocate for musical theatre. His work as a director, dramaturg and writer helped open up conversations about what musicals can be, why they matter, and how they speak to us.

We were proud to publish his book Breaking Into Song: Why You Shouldn’t Hate Musicals, a generous, thoughtful and persuasive celebration of the form he loved.

Sending lots of love to Adam’s family, friends, collaborators and the many artists and audiences whose lives were touched by his work. by @salamanderst

Happy 18th birthday to Strange Town.

We’ve loved working with this brilliant Edinburgh theatre company since 2021, and are proud to have published four of their original plays: Love Bites by Sam Siggs, HER by Jennifer Adam, Balisong by Jennifer Adam and Storm Lantern by Duncan Kidd.

Strange Town’s work with young people, writers and theatre-makers is full of energy, ambition and heart — championing new voices, telling urgent stories, and creating opportunities for the next generation of performers and creatives.

Here’s to 18 years of Strange Town — and to everything still to come. Lots of love to Steve and the whole crew.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to the drama teachers, teaching artists and youth theatre leaders who keep young people thinking, questioning, imagining and creating.

At Salamander Street, we’re constantly inspired by the teachers who put plays into the hands of students — not just to study them, but to speak them aloud, explore them together and discover what theatre can do.

Thank you for championing young performers, encouraging bold choices and keeping drama alive in classrooms, rehearsal rooms and school halls everywhere.
