This poem I embroidered was written by my grandmother Tamar. Like many Roma women, she faced a difficult life path, marked by traditions and trials. But through it all, she remained strong. I will always remember her. 🌹OPRE ROMNJA!

Memories of my first exhibition in Georgia 🇬🇪 @riakeburia_residency @riakeburiafoundation

A series of works devoted to the Romani identity and the life of Roma women in the context of the traditions observed by my family.

Female braids are a central symbol representing one of the punishments girls can be subjected to. When a girl violates a tradition, her hair is cut off against her will. Long hair has always played a sacred role for Roma women, with a select few being allowed to touch it.

Through the artworks and sculptures, I convey the story of my grandmother Tamara, who went through the punishment of having her hair cut off.

This tradition is still maintained in Romani communities in different countries.
