I think MP and I are almost friends now 😂 - it was so nice to work with him again; he is genuinely fun and affable. And, of course, what a privilege to get to go on this magnificent train again, nearly a decade after the first time. (We had 20 passengers with us, it wasn't just me and him 😂)

Wham, 'Dams - alstublieft ma'am.

The 'Dams - Rotter and Amster. All pics came out shite but frankly that caption was too good to waste. (And I've used the Beautiful South reference on a previous Rotterdam visit.)

Please enjoy the pic of me in Rotterdam in the 80s if nothing else.

We did a lot. Had some incredible food at a restaurant called Savor & Nosh, visited Depot museum and had more great food there, saw the heritage working windmills at Kinderdijk, did a splashtours tour of the harbour on a bus that turns into a boat which was bonkers and I was glad I wasn't hungover, went to the photography museum, on to Fenix which is the museum of migration and very thought-proking in this day and age of people not having a clue (but plenty of opinion). Then I had some solo time in Amsterdam, snaffled some ramen and mooched about.

The Bayeux Tapestry is cool and everything (I have seen it a long time ago) but this crypt was built at around the same time (1070s) and is right here in Yorkshire. We had a little trip out to the @northyorkmoors at the weekend to visit the church at Lastingham, and we received such a warm welcome and it's a really beautiful church. The crypt is the oldest Norman crypt in the world (but the very friendly lady at the church told us as it was built only 12 years after the Norman conquest it is more likely Saxon).

Then a long walk around Yearsley Woods, eating beechnuts. 💚

Where else do you get contrasts like this? Beautiful waterfalls and, just a few minutes later, equally beautiful but desolate hillsides. We've just had the most wonderful few days, basically been living in a real-life Rivendell for most of it. I've lost count of #waterfalls and how many #WildSwims I had - I took way too many pictures and ate far too many snacks back at the yurt. Great to see @wildswimmingyorkshireman, and our thanks to him to boot. @spokey72 even got in the water! 💙

At the weekend, I had the most wonderful (and very long) walk round the environs of my home town in Suffolk for the summer solstice, and in the meadow above the town I bumped into an elderly couple in their 90s, walking in the blazing heat up a hill, just to look at the bee orchids hiding in amongst this lot. Absolute #goals.
When I grow up, that's who I want to be.

Currently I am entirely overwhelmed - nothing bad, just overwhelming. Sometimes a field full of flowers is just the ticket. by @salelbar

Please enjoy some Arcade Fire to go with my May highlights. (There were also some pretty grim lowlights, but we only show the good bits on here, don't we? 😂)

May 2026, ft the tail end of a dismal holiday, an early morning walk en masse and coffee rave, the annual puffin/gannet pilgrimage and sea swim, sunbathing/swimming in the #YorkshireDales, top drawer kingfisher watching, coming second in the village duck race (NB: plastic ducks), discovering new walks, 290,500 steps, a party where I laughed my head off (not pictured), an incredible and unexpected kindness (also not pictured), not one but *three* craft markets, and some glorious weather. by @salelbar

York looking resplendent in the spring. I find this time of year indescribably wonderful when the sun is shining and everything is blooming. I spent my birthday (thanks for the messages) wandering around the city and my beloved #YorkWalls, eating a mountain of pancakes whilst accidentally dressed as one of my paintings 🤣. Then a doze in the hammock with @spokey72

The incredible colours of #KohLanta and nearby islands. What a wonderful holiday - great weather, great food, fab accommodation, great company, lovely people, everything just so easy and safe. Beach, jungle, boat trip, previously mentioned cooking class, markets, epic fruit shakes. Definitely made the most of just one week in total - including Bangkok! #Bangkok Pt 2: Here I am with my face stuffed full of chive dumplings and feeling very pleased with myself. I did not expect to love Bangkok as much as I did. Night markets, flower markets, spice markets and all the coconut shakes a gal can drink. The only way to get round is by Bolt. I had a massage with a hammer and braved the batshittery of Khao San Road. Four years, no beers. Just got back from Thailand, (please enjoy these photos of the undisputed highlight of the trip, a cooking class with @cookingwithmon - thank you Samantha) first long-haul holiday without the obligatory gins on the flight or trying to find the airport smoking lounge because I've also given up the smokes and vaping as well. I feel well. (I won't lie, I miss the cigs).
No dancing today, just a Christmas market hawking my @sallyellenbarlowart wares at the Milton Rooms in Malton (Saturday 13th Dec if anyone is around) - it's been a good year for my artwork, and a nice venue to round out the year. 🤩 by @salelbar
