This past Saturday, our Executive Director, Luis Vazquez, received Thrive Youth Center's 2026 Chrysalis Impact Award, recognizing his commitment to uplifting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community.

“Our work doesn't end when someone finds their wings. We must continue creating spaces where future generations feel safe enough to grow, brave enough to dream, and empowered enough to fly.” — Luis Vazquez

We are incredibly proud of Luis and grateful to @thriveyouthcenter for this meaningful recognition and their transformative work supporting LGBTQ+ young people. 💜

Today, we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities.

We also recognize and uplift Two-Spirit people, whose identities and roles have deep roots in many Indigenous cultures and traditions. Their voices, leadership, and contributions are an important part of both Indigenous and LGBTQ+ history.

There’s power in being yourself. As San Antonio’s first openly gay mayor, I’m proud to celebrate National Coming Out Day and remind folks that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and a community that supports them.

Whether you’re thinking about coming out or need support afterward, Thrive Youth Center, Fiesta Youth, Pride Center San Antonio, PFLAG, and the San Antonio LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce are great resources to connect with.

And if someone has an issue with you being out, that’s a them problem, not a you problem.

Today, we joined the City of San Antonio for a special proclamation recognizing LGBTQ+ History Month, LGBTQ+ Veterans, and the 15th anniversary of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

LGBTQ+ history is a story of courage, resilience, advocacy, and progress. We honor those who paved the way and celebrate the contributions that continue to shape our city and nation.

Thank you to Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones @mayorgoj for her leadership, her service as a military veteran, and her commitment to honoring our community’s history.

Our history is worth remembering, celebrating, and preserving. 🏳️‍🌈 by @salgbtqchamber

This LGBTQ+ History Month, we celebrate the approval of Erica Andrews Memorial Way along N. Main Avenue, in the heart of San Antonio’s Pride Cultural Heritage District.

Erica Andrews was a pioneering transgender performer, mentor, and community leader whose legacy helped shape San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ community. This designation ensures that her story and impact remain visible for generations to come.

Thank you to the community advocates who championed this effort, District 1 staff for their work to make it possible, and the San Antonio City Council for honoring Erica’s legacy. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Our history deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and seen.

LGBTQ+ History Month is about honoring our past, recognizing our presence, and building our future.

And in Texas, our community is larger than many may realize.
According to a new Human Rights Campaign report, more than 2.2 million Texas adults identify as LGBTQ+, approximately 12.54% of the state’s adult population. Texas is also second only to California in the total number of LGBTQ+ adults. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4dpKg4V?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_content=ap_dxir3kyyoh

These numbers are a powerful reminder that LGBTQ+ Texans are not a small part of our state’s story. We are business owners, entrepreneurs, employees, neighbors, leaders, and community builders and we have always been part of Texas history.

This #LGBTQHistoryMonth, we celebrate how far we’ve come while continuing to build a Texas where our community can live, work, lead, and thrive.
