I was a refugee, and education changed everything for me. It gave me the chance to shape my own future.

Today, 5.8 million refugee children are out of school, while funding cuts threaten hard-won progress.

Displacement should never determine how far a child can go. by @salih

In Venezuela, I walked alongside people rebuilding their lives after years away and families recovering from the earthquakes.

On my first visit as UN High Commissioner for Refugees, I saw resilience, possibility and hope for a future in safety, opportunity and dignity. by @salih

In La Guaira, I saw both the destruction left by the earthquakes and the determination to rebuild.

With Governor @josealejandro.teran, we also visited the site of the proposed Multiservice Centre bringing key services under one roof.

Whether returning home or rebuilding after disaster, Venezuela is a story of people starting again, with hope.

Honoured to meet President Delcy Rodríguez @delcyrodriguezv and FM @plasenciafelixr on the first visit by a UN High Commissioner for Refugees to Venezuela. We discussed earthquake recovery, voluntary return and reintegration, and a new chapter of cooperation.

Her words to young Venezuelans at UNGA resonated: “It’s worth believing again. This is the time to build the country that many want to return to.”

An important vision of inclusion, stability and prosperity that UNHCR stands ready to support. by @salih

Today I was honoured to meet President @keikofujimorih to discuss protection and solutions for refugees in Peru. 🇵🇪

Peru’s commitment to inclusion and opportunities for refugees is an important example of regional solidarity.

We must keep working for peace and lasting solutions, including making it possible for those who wish to return home to do so in safety and dignity.

Honoured to address a solemn session of Mexico’s Senate and reflect on a promise made 75 years ago: that people forced to flee would not face the future alone.

Through México Integra, co-convening the Global Refugee Forum Mexico is helping turn that promise into protection, opportunity and a chance for refugees to contribute to the communities they call home.

@senadomexico 🙏

At @aumovio in Aguascalientes, Mexico, I saw the future of mobility taking shape, one innovation at a time.

But the most powerful thing I saw wasn’t a machine. It was human potential.

Refugees bring talent, skills and resilience to Mexico. Refugees are good for Mexico. They’re not waiting for the future. They’re helping build it.

Proud to see that firsthand.

75 years ago, the world promised protection to those forced to flee. Today, we reaffirm that promise, grounded in our shared humanity and international law.

Thank you, Mayor of Mexico City @clara_brugada_m for signing The Promise and standing with refugees for protection, dignity and opportunity.

Thank you, Secretary @rosaicelarodriguez_ for your continued engagement on protection and integration.

We spoke about #MéxicoIntegra which builds on years of UNHCR’s Local Integration Programme and is evolving into a sustainable ecosystem led by @gobmexico.

Thank you @cardolettichiara @acnurmx 🙏

At Mexico’s Senate, I thanked the Government and people of Mexico for welcoming those seeking safety.

From Mexico Integra to the 2027 Global Refugee Forum, Mexico shows what is possible when refugees are given the opportunity to contribute and belong. taken in Mexico by @salih

“Look at the person, not the refugee.” Melida’s words stayed with me after Aguascalientes, where government, business, academia and civil society are working together to turn opportunity into inclusion. It benefits everyone. taken in Aguascalientes, Ags, Mexico by @salih

Refugees bring talent. Employers create opportunity.

In Aguascalientes, I met business leaders who understand both. At Aumovio and Exedy, refugee inclusion is creating value for companies, communities and families alike.

As one employer said: “Doing good is always good.” by @salih
