We're thrilled to announce that both of these wonderful filmmakers are the recipients of the SACFF x BANFF Fellowship 2026!

As part of the fellowship they will be attending the BANFF World Media Festival this June, bringing an exciting slate of projects and receiving mentorship from SACFF board members along the way.

This week marks 10 years since I started out in film ✨🎞️

A chance meeting in the Gili Islands 🏝️🏝️ with a cinematographer and next thing we were filming in Dhaka, Bangladesh 🎥

Here are some scenes from one of my first shorts and the talented lens of @nanobunster. I had no idea what I was doing, just a fair share of beginner’s confidence and a decent amount of heart.

So much has happened personally since this moment - birth of a child, death of a father, grandmother, friends lost to suicide, friendships deepened through all of the life happening. I still think of Saidur. I still feel like I am just starting out. I still love the beauty of human stories. ♥️

Today I attended an 11 year old birthday party and well here’s 11 year old me. Someone who a teacher described to a local newspaper as “a real feminist…a little too strong” and likely to be “grinding men into the dust later on.” 😳

Well it’s now later on, and our current world situation is in large part a result of a disproportionate amount of white men in politics or as billionaires. Sorry guys but it da facts.

So I am reclaiming my former self in preparation for some non-violent dust grinding.

More diverse women identifying and non binary leadership is needed to move us forward and past playing with explosive toys and blowing people up.

People of all genders from all over the world who want to reconstruct a new path - WE are all needed to peacefully and courageously show up to change this catastrophic pathway we keep walking on over and over that brings so much suffering to all of humanity.

Dear 11 year old self, I’ll do my very best to bring you alive again. You and I have work to do. 🩷😁💪🏽 by @salimainallu
