Warmth you can feel 🏠🌞

For more than ten years, Frank relied on electric storage heaters to heat his home. The (often faulty) heaters frequently left one room warm while the rest of the house as freezing.

Now, a year after having an air source heat pump and solar panels installed, life at home feels completely different.
The result? Steadier warmth, reliable hot water and meaningful savings on energy bills.

The upgrades at Frank's home were funded through the government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2.1 and delivered by Eden Housing Association.

🎧 In episode 8 of Tomorrow’s Energy, we talk to Tom Naughton, chief operating officer at Fairheat. Tom explains the benefits of heat networks, the challenges they face and what consumers should check before connecting.

From understanding tariffs and maintenance to knowing your consumer rights, asking the right questions is essential.

As Tom says: “Residents don’t care how big the pumps are or what the policy targets are. They care whether their home is warm, their hot water arrives quickly and their costs are reasonable.”

Huge thanks to Tom for joining us and being part of the energy conversation.

We were delighted to be at Larkfield Leisure Centre in Kent last week, which has reached an important milestone with the installation of new air source heat pumps, replacing gas-fired heating for its 25-metre fitness pool.

Supported by a £1.16 million grant from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the project will create an even better space for local people to enjoy. It’s expected to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and support a more sustainable future for the centre and its community.

We’re joining local and government representatives today to celebrate the achievement - a great example of how public sector investment is helping leisure facilities move towards a low-carbon future – and, importantly, making this centre more comfortable for local people to enjoy.

A fantastic milestone for Tonbridge and Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, tmactive and the local community.

A £200k government grant through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is helping Pierrepont Gamston Primary School in Nottinghamshire move to cleaner, more energy-efficient heating.

Delivered by Nottinghamshire County Council, with funding delivered by our teams at Salix, the school project includes heat pumps, upgraded heating systems and improved controls - creating more comfortable learning spaces while helping reduce carbon emissions and long-term energy costs.

It’s a great example of how decarbonisation is about more than technology. It’s about supporting children to learn, making the best use of public money and creating a more sustainable future for local communities.

Thank you to everyone involved for showing how investment in greener public buildings can make a real difference to our local communities.

How energy efficiency upgrades are transforming homes and lives for residents across the country

Hear from three residents who 👇

✅ Crysania, a Colchester Borough Homes tenant, has seen her energy bills reduce by ~80 per cent following the upgrade and removal of faulty electric storage heaters. Crysania had her windows and doors upgraded and now heats her home with an air source heat pump.

✅ Langley-based Jean, a Slough Borough Council resident, has noticed a substantial difference to the comfort of her home, calling solid wall insulation a "warm cuddly blanket wrapped around my house". Jean had cavity wall insulation, solar panels and battery storage installed.

✅ Mary, a North West Leicestershire District Council resident, had insulation and solar panels and loft insulation installed to keep her home warm and bring down energy bills. She says she feels "privileged" and "lucky".

All three organisations funded upgrades for Crysania, Jean and Mary through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2. by @salix_finance
