Spiny elm caterpillars are pretty awesome looking! I am hoping I get twice as lucky to be able to capture the butterfly emerging or drying its wings. I have found 8 total including caterpillars in the process and those already fully cocooned. This little area is pretty cool for nature so far! #photography #hobbies #caterpillar by @sally.sicko

I have had a very lucky day for a hobby photographer. First I saw this giant dragonfly. Then not one but TWO eastern tent moths emerged. They are tiny, fluffy and adorable 😍 Worth the wait! And then, while looking for more moths, I saw this crazy black spiny caterpillar. I have been seeing these empty cocoons all June and I think they belong to the spiny elm caterpillar, who becomes a mourning cloak butterfly. They are a very deep maroon color. Another moth watch has commenced but so far, only one caterpillar. #insects #insectphotography #moths by @sally.sicko

I have been watching this eastern tent caterpillar since the 7th. Around the end of this month, I'm hoping to get some sweet moth photos 😁 I have also found 4 in the process of cocooning, and one cocoon that looks a couple weeks old. My wonderful friend, Jody, @hoggie.toad, invited me to an event for promoting and increasing cultural safety for Métis Women, Youth and 2SLGBTQQIA+.

It was a beautiful, emotionally charged day of personal sharing, keynote speakers, learning about Métis culture and art, and of course good food. There was also a great drag show featuring gorgeous Métis drag performers, including Jaylene Tyme, Simma Downe, Desire Divine, Just Glue, plus more.

I am still feeling very honored to have attended and learned more about my friend and her beautiful culture, and learning more about the community. by @sally.sicko

I have been wanting to capture this butterfly for YEARS. Every spring, I feel like it's not true spring until I spot my yellow butterfly. I never saw it land before until these waning days... my last few weeks in Colorado.
