Tombs I never thought I’d see in Vienna…. The Vienna Central Cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in the world - approx 620 acres! And while I was expecting lots of Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance designs, wasn’t expecting some of these!

My biggest surprise in Prague was the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul right next to Vysehrad Cemetery. It was there, I had time, and I thought “Why not?” I should have known from the doors alone! Absolutely stunning - one of my favorite churches I have ever been in. It was a sensory overload - in the best way- and made me feel immediately awestruck and at peace. The paintings were done by Viennese painter Karl Jobst. The neo-Gothic windows in the presbytery which feature images of saints were designed by Frantisek Sequens.

I knew I was going to get my Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt on at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna but I didn’t know THIS one, “The Embrace” was there! One of the first ones I saw when I walked in and I stopped in my tracks! This is the only print I have in my house. I’ve had it for about 25+ years - I love its rumpled passion! What a thrill to see it up close! Probably spent most of my time in front of this one. I’m not sure I ever thought I would see the original - but I did - and, WOW!

The Monumental Cemetery of Milan was - monumental!! I was stunned and overwhelmed. I could have spent an hour on each row. Often I just stood unsure where to go because everywhere I looked there was something beautiful and interesting. Like all the cemeteries I visited in Italy, this one was active and I saw many people cleaning tombs and leaving flowers on a random Tuesday afternoon. Absolutely beautiful!
