Kinda just realised I got a big responsibility on my hands.

I have no idea how I’m going to approach this topic when the time comes. Like how on earth will I describe my magical brother to the niece or nephew he will never meet? All I know is that it feels like every single moment of life whether it be joy or suffering has been so that I can offer what it taught me to the tiny human growing inside me.

I never saw anything online like this when I needed it, so doing it for younger Sal and anyone else in the pit. It won’t resonate with everyone and that’s okay. Share in the comments what worked for you so that someone who needs it might see it.

But seriously where the mum’s at that LOVED being pregnant? I genuinely for the first time in my life feel free from the body issues & disordered eating that have been plaguing me since I was a girl. Mental health has never been better and you bloody bet my baby is letting me know all day long that they’re thriving too.

“That’s the name of a fucking toy poodle, not a German Shepherd!”

Jackson shot me a look of utter disgust at my suggestion of ‘Charlie’ for his very first dog.

“It needs to be more regal,” he said, kicking off his work boots and tossing them in the direction of the shoe rack. “Like Raj. It means emperor.”

Raj and Jackson were kindred spirits from the moment they found each other. Raj had a funny way of reflecting Jackson’s beautiful chaos straight back at him. For the first six years of Raj’s life—and the last six years of Jackson’s—he was his constant shadow.

When Jackson went to rehab, Raj went too.

He became everyone’s dog there, quietly slipping into the hearts of people who needed him most. Somehow, he always seemed to know exactly who needed a little love.

These two were equally misunderstood. You could spot them from a mile away, both impossible to miss. Their size could be intimidating, but their hearts were even bigger. If you were lucky enough to know them, they’d crack yours gently open with their unwavering affection.

Maybe I should have suggested the name ‘Teddy’ after all.

When Jackson died, Raj spent weeks curled up beside the back gate with one of Jackson’s old work boots, waiting for him to come home. Grief is a process you cannot hurry—not even for a dog.

As our family slowly accepted that Jackson wasn’t coming back through that gate, Raj did too. He healed alongside us, learning a new rhythm in a home with one less voice.

I have no doubt Raj added years to Jackson’s life. And after Jackson was gone, Raj carried a piece of him for the rest of us. Loving Raj meant loving the part of my brother that was still here.

On Raj’s final night on earth, I dreamt of Jackson waiting for him with his arms wide open.

I like to think that after six long years apart, Raj finally found his way back to his best friend.

27 years with you, 6 years without.

Your death anniversary felt so different this year while I’m half way through creating your little niece or nephew inside of me. I thought about how much your existence has changed my life, and will change theirs too.

Sending so much love and strength to anyone struggling with their mental health, know that you’re not alone and it does get better.

Grateful for @lifelineaustralia for adding many years to Jacko’s life 🥹🫶🏻
