2026 23rd Annual National Acquisitive $30,000 Paddo Painting Prize Finalist

Sally Stokes

Dance of the trees, 2026

Oil on Canvas
102 × 122 cm

For Sale
AUD $6,000

There is a particular joy when we go to the desert areas. How do the trees survive, let alone dance! The colours sing a different harmony — the hills leap towards the unending skies. Boulders emerge from the ground — the cypress climb the hills — I draw with gouaches, charcoal & graphite.

I sit among birdsong. When I return to the studio with hundreds of drawings, I try to get the surprises and the metaphors go what life is…

Artist Bio
Sally Stokes is a Sydney based abstract landscape artist who works from her studio in Dural and her boatshed studio on the Hawkesbury river.
