“You decided to do a pageant? Why?!” This was the question I heard most when I shared with friends and family that I was walking in the Miss New Jersey USA pageant. My initial response was always, “I don’t know, I just felt like it.” But truthfully, I did know why. Eight years ago, I dreaded shopping for my prom dress. Five years ago, I couldn’t imagine wearing a swimsuit, even in the privacy of my own room, let alone walking on stage in a bikini in front of hundreds of people. So, why did I decide to walk in this pageant?
I did it for the girl I used to be—the girl who cried in every dressing room while shopping for her prom dress, the girl who wouldn’t take her cover-up off at the beach, the girl who was insecure and hated her body, the girl who never felt like she was enough, the girl who didn’t believe it was possible to fall in love with herself. I did it all for her.

This journey hasn’t been easy—it’s been both mentally and physically challenging. But I am so grateful for my amazing family and friends, whose unwavering support made it possible. From embracing my new routines and sacrifices to helping me choose outfits to watching countless videos of me practicing my walk, they were there through it all. I love you all and I can’t ever thank you enough.
