LETS RUMBA! 🇨🇺 What is Rumba Guaguancó, and why is it important for Cuban Salsa dancers? Featuring Special Cuban guest teacher Lazaro Lopez 📆 Saturday 17 October 🕥 7pm - 12am 📞 07969633701 📌 Trade & Labour Club 485 Ashley Road, Upper Parkstone Poole, BH14 0BB. 💫 Schedule . 7pm Son Cubano . 8pm Rumba Guaguancó/Salsa . 9pm Social/Party Rumba Guaguancó is one of the three main styles of traditional Cuban Rumba, alongside Yambú and Columbia. Born in Cuba, it is an Afro-Cuban cultural expression that combines percussion, singing, improvisation, body movement and a playful dialogue between dancers. Guaguancó is particularly well known for the interaction between male and female dancers, built around flirtation, creativity and rhythm. A key element is the vacunao, a symbolic gesture towards the female dancer, who responds by protecting herself. 🎭 Why is it important for Cuban Salsa dancers? 1. Body movement and control Rumba develops body isolation, hip movement, torso control, coordination and grounded movement. These skills help dancers move more naturally and confidently in Cuban Salsa. 2. Musicality/Rhythm Learning Rumba helps dancers understand the relationship between the clave, percussion, singing and movement. You begin to dance with the music rather than simply perform steps to it. 3. Connection/Improvisation Guaguancó teaches dancers to listen, react, play and communicate through movement. This develops the creativity and responsiveness that make Cuban Salsa and Casino more expressive. 4. Authentic Cuban flavour Rumba introduces dancers to the Afro-Cuban roots and cultural influences that have shaped Cuban popular dance and music. It helps you understand where many movements, rhythms and expressions come from. 🇨🇺 The bottom line If you want to improve your Cuban Salsa, don’t just learn more steps — learn the roots of the dance! Rumba Guaguancó helps you develop your body movement, musicality, creativity, confidence and understanding of Cuban culture. These qualities can transform the way you dance Casino, interpret Timba and express yourself on the dance floor. #guaguancó #soncubano #sonmontuno #salsa #dance taken in Parkstone Trades & Labour Club (PTLC) by @salsaexplosion

Rumba Guaguancó is one of Cuba’s most popular traditional Rumba styles, rooted in Afro-Cuban culture and heritage, particularly in Havana and Matanzas. 🥁 The Music Driven by powerful percussion, claves, singing and call-and-response rhythms, Guaguancó is full of energy, syncopation and musical expression. 🎭The Dance Guaguancó combines expressive body movements, rhythmic footwork, improvisation and playful interaction between dancers. One of its distinctive features is the vacunao — a symbolic gesture that one dancer playfully attempts while the other dodges it. 🇨🇺 Why is it important for Cuban Salsa? Guaguancó has influenced Cuban dance through its rhythms, body movement and musicality. Learning Rumba helps dancers develop coordination, body awareness and a deeper understanding of the Afro-Cuban roots of Salsa. Rumba Guaguancó is more than a dance — it’s a conversation between music, movement and Cuban culture. 🇨🇺 #salsa #soncubano #rumba #timba #guaguanco taken in Parkstone Trades & Labour Club (PTLC) by @salsaexplosion
