He was more than the Calypso King. He was part of history, humour, truth and identity.

That’s all it took.

Standing at Store Bay Beach between a Trinidadian woman who just retired and a Tobagonian lifeguard/diver… suddenly we were sharing stories about manta rays in the water.

Strangers → conversation → connection.

It really is that simple sometimes.

This morning I was sitting alone having breakfast at Shore Things in Tobago

I heard someone behind me speaking my father’s language - Norwegian.

I turned around, smiled and asked:”Undskyld Er I fra Norge?” (Excuse me are you from Norway?)

We ended up having a lovely little conversation.

Sometimes all it takes is a smile and a simple question for strangers to connect.
