This took me TEN solid days of work. 144 frames. Obviously the frames vary greatly in their exposures and I think that makes me love it even more. If you look really closely you can see my fingerprint on one of the frames. I’d like to see AI be so imperfect.

I’m currently away for work, spending 12 hours a day in a small boat with an essential stranger every day. He’s a semi-retired offshore scallop dragger captain with very deep fishing roots, and I’m … not sure how to sum up my boat experience.

We have a lot of time to talk, so I’ve been reminded of where my love of boats started. It started in Tofino. I moved there to surf but the boats were the hidden lead in my life and I found more intrigue in those living on the boats than I did in the surfers if I’m being honest. The characters I met through the boats in Tofino will forever be some of my favourites.

This photo of me at age 20-something was taken by my friend Galen. I’m standing on a 1927 boat called the Daily that he had just refloated a day before this photo was taken. It had been sitting underwater for maybe 6 months so it was covered in barnacles and as they began to die this boat smelled very ripe. Galen shared his love of these old wooden boats with me and I think it was he who started this lifelong love of mine. taken in Tofino, British Columbia by @saltbox.media

I haven’t swam with my camera since the winter but somehow the first two weeks of August always have me running around the province with my camera in tow. Grateful for the flurry of activity - it keeps me on my toes.

I’m pretty stoked to share that my image ‘Sandlance’ will be included in the @spaocentre APEX exhibition. What an honour!

I miss SPAO and the community and wish I could see it in person, I’m sure it’ll be nothing short of stunning.
