A preview of “The Long Stay,” from our upcoming issue:

When Tyler Cauble and Lynna Paradiso Cauble bought the former Congress Inn on Dickerson Pike, they knew they were taking on a motel that had seen better days.

As the couple began pulling away decades of alterations, the oldest part of the property started revealing itself: original hardwood under endless layers of flooring. Beautiful brick walls and casework covered with plaster and drywall. Carved doors completely encased.

Ultimately, what the couple found was the kind of treasure true lovers of Nashville history go nuts over—a house dating to 1824, originally built as a summer home for the Hart family, the family for whom nearby Hart Lane is named.

But thanks to the Caubles, that same house is now the centerpiece of Salt Ranch, a 48-room hotel, bar and pool club spread across two and a half acres just minutes from downtown Nashville. Rather than erase the property’s many lives, Tyler and Lynna used them as the starting point for what came next.

It’s an especially fitting next chapter for a property that has been welcoming people for generations.

Only this time, the doors are wide open.

Room to roam, on the same ground where roaming has always been the point. 🏜️

Before there was a Nashville, there was a trail. Buffalo carved it through the cane and hills of Middle Tennessee, moving between salt licks that drew every living thing for miles. Native hunters followed the buffalo. French traders followed the hunters. Settlers widened the path into a road, and that road became Dickerson Pike. by @saltranch

I just stayed in a 200-year-old Nashville hotel that was a Civil War hospital… and I’m 1,000% convinced I wasn’t alone. 👻

Meet Salt Ranch.

The original house was built in 1824 and served as a hospital during the Civil War. In the 1950s, the property became a roadside motor inn and eventually the infamous Congress Inn…

And according to Nashville lore? Senators in the 1950’s kept their girlfriends here… away from their wives. 👀

The property eventually closed, sat vacant, and has now been completely reimagined as Salt Ranch — a 48-room boutique hotel and pool club that looks like Palm Springs.

Which is exactly why I booked it.

I came for the pool. Stayed for the LORE. And last night while brushing my teeth, I saw something move behind me in the mirror. I whipped around and no one there. I checked to make sure the door was locked. At no point did I think GHOST 👻.

This morning when checking out, the front desk guy tells me he has worked the overnight shift for 3 years & had a LOT of stories to tell.

SIR.

Possibly one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed.

Summer isn’t over until I say it’s over. Especially at the @saltranch in East Nashville 👏 ✨

I came for the pool, and stayed for the chill vibes. ✨

I got a first look at Salt Ranch Hotel when they opened earlier this year, but this was my first time actually staying overnight and getting the full experience.

This 48-room boutique hotel, barroom and pool club in East Nashville feels like a little Palm Springs 🌴 escape without ever leaving Nashville.

There’s plenty to do without leaving the property: hang by the pool, grab cocktails at the bar, play a game of backgammon, bring your pup to the dog park or just hang in your room and order dinner straight to your door. Honestly, my kind of staycation. 🙌

There’s also a LOT of history here. The original house dates back to 1824, and the property later became a roadside motor inn before being completely reimagined as Salt Ranch. And apparently there’s some spooky history mixed in there too 👻

Sometimes you really don’t have to leave Nashville to feel like you got away. I had a relaxing stay and I can’t wait to visit again☀️🍹
