Hi, I’m Elle!👋 I’m based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I created Salty Treks as a way to stay curious and share the beauty of the world around us. It’s easy to get caught up in everyday life and overlook the little things that make this world so incredible.

Health matters a lot to me, and I’m a firm believer that the outdoors, movement, and the everyday choices we make to care for ourselves play a huge role in our long term well-being and quality of life.

My goal: encourage others to get outside, explore new places, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Along the way, I’ll be sharing adventures and plenty of good (and maybe a little salty) trail vibes.

If you enjoy adventure, nature, healthy living, and discovering beautiful places in the Mountain West and beyond, follow along @saltytreks ⛰️☀️✨

Hiking this in the fall was such a different experience from when I did it in the summer! ⛰️✨

📍 Circle All Peak: Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
⛰️ Hard | 3.5 miles | 1,519 ft elev. gain
🚙 ~30 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

The elevation gain (1,500+ ft in just 1.25 miles) was tough in some sections, but the fall colors made it extra special. (If you want an outdoor StairMaster workout, this is the trail).

Loved getting to leaf-peep here before the snow arrived in the mountains!

One of my favorite places in Southern Utah ✨

📍Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park: Kane County, Utah
🚙 5 hours from Salt Lake City, Utah

There’s nothing that compares to southern Utah! I always love the drive to the Coral Pink Sand Dunesss

The spiciest scramble yet ⛰️✨

📍Devil’s Castle (via Alta Base): Little Cottonwood Canyon
⛰️ Strenuous | ~7 miles | 2,345 ft elev. gain
✨Shorter trail option: You can start at the Cecret Lake trailhead to cut down on mileage. Check @AllTrails for route options and details!
🚙 ~40 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

I had so much fun with this one, especially getting to pass through Sugarloaf Peak and Cecret Lake along the way!

This is one of those hikes where a slip can have serious consequences, so please don’t underestimate it and keep three points of contact when scrambling. There were definitely moments when I had to really lock in and focus on my next move.

The AllTrails path is helpful for navigation, but more experienced hikers and climbers may know better alternatives through some of the more technical sections. I’d recommend doing this hike with someone who has experience with the trails!

Trail notes:
✨ Check weather conditions. Save this one for warmer/drier weather and suitable trail conditions. With cooler temperatures and rain moving in, this isn’t one I’d recommend doing in those conditions.
✨If you have limited or no scrambling experience, please do not take this on. With anything, be consistent and work your way up before jumping into something like this.
✨ If you feel ready and decide to do this, if at any point you feel uncomfortable, please listen to that feeling and turn back. With the exposure and scrambling involved, this hike isn’t for everyone (and that’s okay)! There are so many other trails to enjoy for all experience levels!
✨ As always, do your own research and happy hiking!

Southern Utah will always have a special place in my heart ⛰️✨

Having lived in southern Utah for a few years, it’s always fun to come back and explore, especially when it involves a little off-roading!

We loved our sunset stroll along the Jordan River in Midvale the other day! ⛰️✨

📍 Jordan River Parkway Trail: Midvale, Utah
🚙 20 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

We had fun exploring some of the smaller trails branching off from the paved path. A nice little spot to get outside and enjoy an easy stroll or a run!

✨ Trail notes: The Jordan River Parkway is a long trail, so you can make your walk or run as short or as long as you’d like. I’ve run on different parts of the Jordan River Trail in other cities, but this was my first time checking out the Midvale section and it didn’t disappoint. The mountain views were beautiful, and there were so many quail!

Love Big Cottonwood Canyon so much, I had to go back to check out the fall foliage again! ⛰️✨

📍 Twin Lakes Trail: Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
⛰️ Moderate | 3.0 miles | 754 ft elev. gain
🚙 40 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

This time, we made our way up to Twin Lakes from Silver Lake! It’s so sad how quickly it gets dark now, but it made for a fun and slightly spooky hike back down with our headlamps!

Trail notes:
✨There’s a $10 recreation parking fee for a 3-day pass (an America the Beautiful Pass is accepted here). For more details about the rec fee, check out the Big Cottonwood Canyon website!

Ever since I heard about Sugarloaf Peak, I knew I had to check it out for myself to see what the view of Cecret Lake looked like from up there! ⛰️🌊✨

📍 Sugarloaf Peak via Alta Base
⛰️ Moderate/Hard | 5.4 miles | 2,345 ft elevation gain
🚙 ~40 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

I’ve been to Cecret Lake multiple times, but decided it was finally time to check out Sugarloaf Peak! It’s a fun add-on to Cecret Lake if you’re looking for a little more of a challenge and a completely different perspective of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Trail notes:
✨ You can start at Alta Base for extra mileage and steps. Plus, parking before the Alta toll booth is free! Or, you can park at the Cecret Lake trailhead, but there’s a $12 fee at the toll booth. Be sure to do your own research before you go to see which option is best for you, and check current trail and road conditions!

Happy hiking!✨

Dog Lake was such a cute little lake! ⛰️✨

📍Dog Lake (via Mill D North Fork): Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
⛰️ Moderate | 5.5 miles | 1,469 ft elev. gain
🚙 ~35 minutes from Salt Lake City, Utah

This was such a fun add-on when I hiked Lake Desolation! If you’re exploring this trail or area, I definitely recommend checking out Lake Desolation, too.

Trail notes:
✨There’s a $10 recreation parking fee for a 3-day pass (an America the Beautiful Pass is accepted here). For more details about the rec fee, check out the Big Cottonwood Canyon website!
✨ I visited at the end of August and just forgot to post this one earlier. Oops 😂 So obviously, the scenery looks way different now with fall colors! The seasons have changed so much in just a little over a month. Check @alltrails for the latest trail conditions!
✨Don’t forget to pack layers in case it’s a little chilly!
