Urban Lumber - Reclaimed, Recycled & Reborn to last for generations.

Traveled outside the city to reclaim this beautiful walnut tree. It was overhanging an old cemetery and driveway, posing a serious risk to people and the cemetery grounds.

Couldn’t just fell it, so we climbed and pieced it down safely. So far she’s given us a few cutting boards and serving trays… but rest assured those slabs are (air) drying and will produce some gorgeous heirloom furniture.

With a great a story to boot.

Finding fulfillment in the journey can be as rewarding as the finished product.

Needed a record holder, something quick & clean. Dug around the shop & found some old rebar. A few bends, a few welds a fair amount of rust removal… there it is!

Another piece of that beautiful Western Ave Maple brought back to life. This project was donated to a local school (right near where the tree fell…🌳😊) for their annual fundraiser.

It did well. A win-win. Funds for school children & an heirloom piece of furniture for a local family.

Thanks to @granberginternational & @odiesoil for helping me bring this to life. And of course @stihl, my 661 has never failed.

A maple came down on Western Ave in Chicago a few years back. It was a nasty storm that claimed many a tree.

I was able to reclaim a good portion of it before it was hauled away.

We slabbed it up, let it dry and it is yielding some of its first pieces.

Just a few of the finished projects that came from our “Cemetery Walnut” (earlier post, see the journey)

The air drying process can be slow, but worth the wait. A healthy reminder to slow down every once in a while, and just let nature do its thing.

This reclaimed tree will be providing us with many more projects for years to come.

Alaskan Mill… for those DMs who asked. This big old Oak was slabbed up and is drying as we speak.

The setup: @granberginternational Alaskan Mill (simply the best, and family owned!) along with my @stihl @stihlusa 661, a beast.

And of course, safety first. PPE.

Maple Table (Alaskan) milled from a fallen tree in Chicago.
Rather than letting this big, beautiful Maple Tree end up in the city wood chipper, we saved her and she was reborn into this gem.

Threw in a few walnut bow ties to keep things together and add some warmth. The final step was welding up some custom steel legs.

She’s heavy… and she will last for generations.
