Sam Doberstein is headed to Marian Cycling!

Hailing from Wausau, Wisconsin, Sam plans to study Health & Nutrition while continuing her cycling career at Marian.

“I was drawn to Marian for a lot of reasons. The cycling team has a strong reputation, and I know being part of that program would help me grow as a racer and push me to become the best athlete I can be. After touring the campus and meeting the team, it was clear that the riders and coaches are a family, and that’s something I really want to be a part of. I also liked the smaller size of Marian. I feel like a smaller school would help me build stronger relationships with my professors and classmates along with giving me the support to succeed academically. Marian feels like a place where I can grow both on and off the bike!”

Sam has been racing bikes for 5 years, primarily competing in cross-country mountain biking, with experience in cyclocross and road racing. At Marian, she’s excited to add downhill and more road racing to the mix.

Racing for Homegrown Athletics Devo, Sam’s accomplishments include becoming the 2025 W24 6-Hour Overall Women’s Champion, finishing 2nd in the 17–18 Women’s field at the 2024 Iceman Cometh Challenge, 3rd Overall Woman at the 2024 Ore2Shore, earning Top-20 Pro/U23 finishes at the 2026 Englewood UCI Continental Series, and collecting three NICA Varsity State podiums.

When she’s not on the bike, Sam enjoys oil painting, reading, working at a family restaurant, and mentoring younger riders through CWOCC.

Welcome to the Knights, Sam! ⚔️💙💛 by @sam.doberstein

kicked off the season this weekend at @wors_mtb !! tested out the legs against some strong 💪 women and things are starting to come together, so I couldn’t be happier 😉

I am also really excited to be racing with the @homegrownathleticshq Devo team, I have a super cool role as a mentor this year to two really strong youth athletes, Lena and Willem! We also have some amazing local sponsors; @breakfast_bear, @ribmountaincycles, and @redeyebrewing, that are giving support to the team 🤝

Now time to get ready for some more racing coming up 👏 by @sam.doberstein

Words can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for the past six years and everything they’ve meant to me. I feel so lucky to have found something that brings me so much joy every day and has surrounded me with such incredible people.
As sad as I am for this chapter to end, I’m even more excited for what comes next!!
