My rendition of one of the best Christmas songs written :) feeling full of love this christmas for a million and 1 people, hoping to share it with everyone around me.
I would have a video without 2 missed notes but my neighbors were banging on the walls to get me to stop so this is the best I could get 💔 by @sam.v.percussion

If samuel james wylie the 3rd could see me now I like to think he'd be proud, studying with members of the philly orchestra, played with the Baltimore Symphony orchestra this summer and listened to lots of LITTLE RIVER BAND
Proud to share his name and be the fifth. by @sam.v.percussion

2 years ago while I was working at the BSA TWIGS program, helping teach elementary and middle schoolers, I was working with the percussion teacher Donna DiStefino. She was my teacher in elementary and middle school, and was the first percussion teacher at BSA ever. She gave me a few pieces of sheet music, one included this, Three Pieces for the Winter solstice by John Bergamo.

When she showed me the piece at first she told me "isn't this piece funny, look you pour bbs on it." But I was so intrigued I kept bothering her about it.

She performed it at her masters recital for California Institute of the Arts, after studying directly with the composer John Bergamo. After deciding to perform it she gave me direct notes from John Bergamo. The ability to indirectly receive the unwritten performance notes from the composer himself through my teacher was a magical experience for me.

In the video are the instructions for the three movements, instructions I spend weeks deciphering. Understanding the techniques and the patience needed to perform a piece like this took time but gave me a new appreciation for the ability to find musicality in things that may not be inherently "musical".

I promised Ms DiStefino I'd perform this piece in living honor of her, but never received the chance to do so, so I decided to record and share it in honor of her.

Thank you @fadzitj and @wenshiangs for helping with the recording and editing of this performance. by @sam.v.percussion
