One last race to cap off the year. High-Lite was the first bike race I ever did and started my whole ultra-cycling obsession. Felt great to come back 2 years later and knock over 24 hours off my time.

Some photos from racing the 2026 Smoke N Fire 400 last week. Smoke n Fire is a 423 mile self supported backcountry mountain bike race through central/southwestern Idaho. This year brought gnarly weather in the high country with heavy rain and temps in the mid 30’s. Hypothermia with the boys build character.
-Finish time: 60 hours 59 minutes
-Overall position: 4th
-29 hours 50 minutes faster than last year. by @sam.werthy

Crazy week riding the Smoke & Fire 440. 440 miles and 42,000 feet of elevation gain made up of backcountry single track & dirt road goodness. Finished a bit slower than I wanted but didn’t shit myself and only cried once so I’ll call it a success. taken in Sawtooth National Forest by @sam.werthy

Roseburg to Coos Bay 2024 was an absolute banger. We redlined from the start chasing 1st place, but came away with second 🥈. First losers baby! Great to have all the boys back together for a weekend. by @sam.werthy
