Overdrive x Rookie Low.Fun day out in spring not too long ago. This was the first real day outside after some winter training and I was feeling pretty fit. Even Managed to snag a double double. The crew vibe was so good and @aronhailey my lucky charm was there. Somehow having him around I seem to always climb well; his good spirit and energy is contagious. He had his camera out that day and managed to document the sends and put together this fun video. ...Been training hard to break through some plateaus but man is it hard! I had my eyes set on some harder climbs that are in my style but I find trying harder things are pretty taxing on the body and injuries occur from the intensity. Because of this I've been looking at my growth in other aspects like improving different disciplines, pushing my capacity and experimentation in my training. This whole process is fun and it's great to change the focus. I think I'll know when it's time to switch back to trying max stuff. Oh and cross training! Running is a thing now. Got tips?.#squamish #bouldering #pnw #squamishbouldering #squamishclimbing by @sam_chow_

Distillery V11.I went to Kelowna with this climb at the top of my list. I thought it was going to be a quick tick but ended up falling on the last hard move 12 times over a few sessions before putting it down. Being this close to finishing a climb was a good chance to re-evaluate what I was doing wrong tactically and rethink my processes. It all worked out that it took a bit to climb this as I sent it first try during rock the blocs..Really glad @benkjoel led the charge on climbing the head wall. I definitely would've just dropped off as most people do but watching him do the top was pretty inspiring, it was also reassuring that the holds were fairly bomber up there..Topping the boulder made the whole experience closer to a sport climb. You've passed the crux and there's just flowy goodness before "clipping the chains".#rocktheblocs2023 by @sam_chow_

Division Bell 5.13d/8b ✅Footage is the second crux. Check out the end for the scale of the wall..This climb went last go of the last day before the monsoon in squamish. Literally started raining as I clipped the chains. I had written it off a couple weeks ago putting this climb off til the next year since I was falling at the same spot near the end for 7 sessions. I was falling on the last hard move over and over again. It was mentally draining living in vancouver and making the trek out the squamish (3-4 hour commute) every time knowing I only had 2 good tries in me. I definitely haven't felt this kind of pressure before, my hands would literally sweat thinking of the climb. I had done so much visualizing and felt like I physically could do it but my mental resilience wasn't there. This weekend everything seemed to align. Knowing it was the last day of the season my mindset had completely changed. The pressure was no longer there, I just thought of the session as a working session. I was no longer focusing on just getting to the top. It was like a weight vest got removed from my body. On the send, it felt right. I definitely had to fight my way to the top but I was moving with focus and ease like I hadn't done before it's moments like these I try to capture and cherish because it doesn't come often.I was reflecting on how much time and work it took (17 sessions and 38 tries) and it's the hardest I've ever tried on rope. So many people helped me along the way and so many lessons learnt on this one. Lessons learnt:- Find your cadence during the climb, don't blast through it- Deep breathes- Hang off your skeleton- Sleep is clutch- Sport climbing is hard!- Disassociation during uncomfortable rests- Screaming helps on moves when youre waaay above the last draw. Thanks to all support@admanbanks@buchereliMckenzie - 🎥Mike@alexanderking.nz@tiger.climbsLong list because climbing is a team sport. by @sam_chow_

New Soul.Spent a couple of days in Mitake, exploring some beautiful river boulders. The town was scattered along the river bank, just like the boulders, which made for very convenient excursion outtings. This block could be seen from the main bridge of Mitake, I was excited to find that it had some lines established in the book. It had just rained, but luckily, it was dry enough to climb. I came here to check out the iconic Ninja Geishi boulder, but I'm finding that this area has so much more to offer. by @sam_chow_

Elephant Shadow.Down the Ashlu Valley and up a river wash out lies this beautiful tall granite climb. It's a bit of a scramble on some unstable rock to get to the climb so careful if you go, but it was well worth it.I'm surprised this went down in the heat but it helps when you got a few heads to figure out all the moves! There was also a stream that was flowing through the landing zone so that might've acted as a heat sink to cool down the rock. Thanks to @clayton.guacamole @aronhailey keeping me alive.Aron was able to capture some shots that really captured the beauty of the area. by @sam_chow_

Second Story. One of my favorite boulders this summer, that's really a sport climb on a boulder. This boulder requires some friends to tackle due to the amount of pads and rigging to make this puppy safe. Glad to enjoy this experience with @aronhailey and @tiger.climbs. by @sam_chow_

Popped my pinky pulley recently in the process of climbing "The Reckoning" 👎. If you listen closely around 24 seconds mark when I cut feet, you'll heal the pop. In the moment, I was locked in and wasn't completely sure if it was a finger injury, so I kept going. Unfortunately, the doubt in my head made me execute poorly...Surprisingly, I'm not that bummed. A combination of good people around me, a rough timeline of when it'll be healed, the quick progress on this climb and stoke to come back to put it down has me looking forward to the future. I was ready to put years and years into this dream climb, but after 5 sessions over the course of 2 months, I started with being able to do the moves and then connect the moves together. On the fourth session, I was able to climb it one move into the top. I took one rest day and then gave it send goes as you see in the video. Knowing this climb is possible is a very motivating thing, and Im stoked to get back as soon as possible.I usually try not to dream too big; I like to take on projects I know I can do. I think the act of dreaming has paid off as I wouldn't have ever attempted this climb overwise, it kick started the specific winter training I did for this climb. By thinking of things that may seem impossible a lot of doors have opened for me now, and I'm already dreaming of other projects I want to enjoy time on even though I have a finger injury 🙃📹: @justin0022 by @sam_chow_
