DUMP TOBEY MAGUIRE

To the silly little play that changed my life, words will never describe how unbelievably grateful I am for everything that has happened because I thought it would be funny if a teenager kidnapped tobey maguire and married him in her basement. Here’s to everyone who championed the play in its earliest forms, worked on it in New York, London, and Chicago, seen it, read it, found it on Tik tok - thank you for making little Sam’s dreams come true. And thank you Tobey Maguire for not sending a cease and desist even though I really wanted you to.
Goodbye Tobey Maguire fan club - onto the next ✨💋 by @sam_hurley

Meet Samantha Hurley, the playwright behind COUNTESS JOSEPHINE AND LADY PHILOMENA du BOURBON TRY TO HIDE A BODY!

Maine-raised and Chicago-based, Samantha’s debut play, I’M GONNA MARRY YOU TOBEY MAGUIRE, premiered Off-Broadway to critical acclaim and a sold-out run before heading to London’s Southwark Playhouse. Her second full-length play, RE(VULVA), earned semifinalist recognition from the O’Neill and Princess Grace Award, plus a Relentless Award Honorable Mention.

A party guest drops dead, leaving two aristocratic women to attempt a hilariously disastrous cover-up in 18th-century France.

See the chaos unfold November 17 or join us for all six plays at WeWomen, November 16–18 at Bramble Arts Loft.

Confessions to my mom on the three year anniversary of her death:
- I cannot stress the amount of gossip I have to tell you. You would die.(well…)
- Last year on the anniversary of your death a bird shit on me!!!! I know that was you - not funny !!!
- You’re about to be a grandmother. Don’t worry we still have the hundreds of children’s books that you insisted we save for this very ocassion.
- You would be so proud that I finally started therapy. (Of course my therapist is British and loves the Real Housewives.)
- Your urn cracked?? What the fuck is that about ??? Are you trying to get out ??
- My handwriting looks just like yours. I don’t think it’s always been this way, but recently I see you in every letter. I’ve even picked up your habit of double underlining “love you” in every card.
- I truly believe you would’ve solved the Nancy Guthrie case. You would’ve been sending us all theories and news articles 24/7.
- Controversially, I do not like the idea that you’re “watching over me.” Creep. Get a hobby. You don’t need to be watching over me as I charge my credit card at Old Navy or after I have a couple too many gin and tonics. I’d much rather be able to call you. Send you a picture of yogurt in my fridge so you can tell me if it’s good or not. Instead, I have to think about you having a front row seat to all of the moments I would’ve never ever told you about. I’m sure you’re being cool about it. Giving me my privacy. I bet I’m making you laugh. (And don’t worry, I’m eventually gonna pay off my credit card debt. Like mother, like daughter)
Anyways, so stupid that you’re still dead. Not cool Jackie. Miss you. Love you.
Xoxoxo

@sam_hurley's I'm Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire, 'a witty and comedic piece of theatre' (Theatre Weekly) is now available for amateur and professional licensing in the UK!

It’s 2004, and 14-year-old Shelby Hinkley has kidnapped Tobey Maguire, at the height of his career, to force him into marrying her. A laugh-out-loud dark comedy steeped in Y2K nostalgia, it explodes our para-social relationships and the obsessions that detonate them.
