This is for everyone who's struggled.
This is for the students I've lost.
This is for my mates who've quietly gone through hardship.
This is for my family.
This is for the family members who are no longer here.
This is for the people I've had to walk away from.
This is for the people who inspire me daily.
This is for everyone who's shaped me.
This is for all of you. by @sam_lloydos

A whole week without you. The hardest week in a very long time. How I miss having my shadow follow me all around the house, curl up on the couch, and sit patiently at my feet in hopes of getting a taste of whatever I'm cooking. I have cried more tears than I knew my body could make. Miss you Karma ❤️ by @sam_lloydos

My Karma girl,

You were so unbelievably loved. Thank you for being the most fun loving, goofy, silly, snuggly dog I have ever known, and for choosing me to be your owner. I will forever miss racing you around the house, our walks, feeding you all the treats you shouldn't have got, and seeing you defy gravity by jumping for joy when I walked home. Most of all, I'll just miss you.

Go over the rainbow bridge bubba, thank you for being you ❤️🥺 by @sam_lloydos

I want to preface this by saying that this is simply me following through on a promise I made to myself about sharing some mental health insights/lived experience ahead of my marathon. I am by no means an expert, and do not take anything i say as gospel, but hopefully, by sharing, it can help other people realise that maybe some things theyre experience are real, and they're not alone.

This has been a surprisingly difficult thing to write, and I have been reflecting on it quite heavily in the lead up.
Did i have some big spiel about how sport was part of my identity? Yes.
Did it hurt to leave that part of me behind and look to bigger better things? Also yes
Has it allowed me to grow as a person and understand so much more of who I am as a person? You bet.

Today marks 5 years since a big, life changing experience in my life. 5 years ago, I had a very abrupt end to playing footy, when I tore my ACL.

My injury, and stepping away from sport, has allowed me to find out so much more about myself in the 5 years since. I've discovered all sorts of hobbies I wouldn't have previously explored, connected with people I wouldn't have, and had time for parts of my life I wasn't focusing on enough prior to. Since my injury and evaluating what I allow to influence how I see myself, I am in a happier place mentally, and have a better, more well rounded grasp of who I am, than I did. Life has been a better thing, a happier thing, since I've allowed myself to have more than just sport as an core part of my life.

I think too much of society today focuses specific on parts of our lives, and labels, and uses these to shape who we are. Professionally and personally, I have done this myself, where I have relied on a label to shape how I saw myself. Fuck that. We dont need a label to define our value or who we are. Just be you, be all of you. Being you, and happy with who you are, irrespective of labels, is enough ❤️

I want to preface this by saying that despite being busy, and fund-raising for mental health, I am doing really well presently! Not 100% sure why I'm writing this in the format I am, but in the coming weeks/months before the Melbourne Marathon, I kind of want to share some insight/lived experiences with some aspects of mental health I've had to navigate? Maybe? Something like that anyway.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I ran the Run for a Reason. My reason? Me. Work-life balance is something so many people struggle with in a world that is so busy, all the time, and it is truly something I could improve. I'm by no means an expert, but finding time for things I enjoy (see attached images) let's me switch off from the really full on thing that life can be. Whether its going to gigs, seeing family or mates, running, karate, golf, gym or taking the dogs for a walk, I'm grateful for those breaks in my week that keep me sane. Those things, big or small, let me clear my head and forget about everything else for a little while.

If, by some miracle, you've managed to read this much of my ramblings, please check in with yourself, mind time for those things you love, and take care. Much love ❤️
