Rafa is more than a basketball player.

He’s a young CEO in the making. While most kids his age are just scrolling TikTok, he’s studying TikTok Marketplace, doing the research, and building his own business from the ground up.

On the court, he attacks his weaknesses like a pro. Off the court, same energy.

Honored to be a small part of his journey as his basketball mentor. The future is bright for this young king.

Salute to his father for leading by example and using the game to teach real life principles - discipline and consistency.

Sports has been a family business for the Walkers. 🏀❤️

But the business was never just about sports.

It has been a platform for free college tuition, opportunities to travel the world, experiences we could have never imagined, and even the ability to get paid to play the game we love.

But honestly, those things are just the bonus.

The real value of sports is the life lessons that come with the journey — discipline, accountability, sacrifice, resilience, responsibility, relationships, and learning how to work toward something bigger than yourself.

Unfortunately, too many coaches, trainers, and parents have become invested in the wrong things. Winning, highlights, rankings, exposure and attention can become more important than developing the person underneath the jersey.

I’ve always tried to see sports differently.

This post is a shoutout to my own kids, who have tolerated me pushing them, challenging them, and holding them accountable because I wanted them to become the best versions of themselves — not just the best athletes they could be.

Sports gave the Walkers a platform.

It has opened doors, created opportunities, and taught us lessons that will last far beyond the game.

And if there’s one thing I hope my kids understand, it’s this:

Sports is the vehicle. It was never the destination.

The Walkers have been successful using sports as a platform, and I truly believe this is only the beginning.

The next big thing is coming soon. 🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️

Bigger than sports. Always.

Almost 5 years ago, I had the opportunity to train @olaiii_3

At first glance, this may look like just another basketball training video. But for me, this video represents something much bigger.

His father understood early that basketball was simply a platform—a vehicle to teach his son structure, hard work, discipline, consistency, and how to commit to something bigger than himself.

Every time @Olaiii_3 showed up, there was purpose behind the work. And that purpose was never simply about making it to the NBA.

Fast forward to today…

As a college student, he’s had the opportunity to perform surgery in Dubai—something that still isn’t legally permitted here in the United States. He’s also built a successful real estate company and is doing big business both here and abroad.

That’s the vision.

Basketball was never the destination. It was the vehicle.

I’ve been fortunate to work with families who understand the bigger picture and recognize that sports can teach lessons that extend far beyond the court.

I’m forever grateful to the families who have trusted me enough to be a small part of their children’s journey.

The goal was never just to build better basketball players.

It was to help build better people.

And sometimes, years later, you get to see exactly what that investment was really about. 🙏🏾🏀 by @samaki_walker

I’ve learned when you’re truly committed to something physically, spiritually and emotionally, nothing can stand in your way💯 I usually watch India’s First Post news program for some of my global news and they be low key trolling from time to time 😂🤣🙌🏾

Balance. Control. Coordination.

Today, we challenged Liam’s ball handling by emphasizing the connection between his upper and lower body. The goal wasn’t just to move the ball—it was to develop the ability to stay balanced, coordinated, and in control while manipulating the basketball at a high level.

From there, we transitioned into one-hand/one-arm layups, taking away the opposite hand and arm that players often rely on to guide or stabilize the ball. Removing that assistance forces the player to develop greater touch, control, coordination, and confidence with the ball.

I was impressed by how quickly Liam picked up the drill, but what impressed me most happened at the end of the session.

🥷🏾📦 The Rubik’s Cube.

Watch this video all the way to the end and see if you can match Liam! 🙌🏾

As a player development coach and mentor, I’m extremely fortunate to work with some amazing young athletes and their families. Moments like this remind me that what we do can be about so much more than basketball.

Find something you truly love to do.

Because the potential impact you can have on others—and the impact they can have on you—is priceless. 🙏🏾🏀 by @samaki_walker

Proud of Adrian and the young man he continues to become. His work ethic, consistency, and commitment to his basketball journey are refreshing to witness. 🏀

What makes it even more special is the incredible support he receives from his parents and the motivation he brings from outside of our training. He rarely misses an opportunity to improve and is already mature enough to understand that basketball is teaching him valuable lessons about life.

Success may be coming early, but Adrian understands one thing: the grind never stops, and neither does the growth. Keep working, keep learning, and keep chasing those goals, Adrian! 💪🏀🔥 by @samaki_walker

My guy Eric just won the Jr. Hoops Championship and was named MVP. He handed me his 1st place medallion which simply meant the world to me.
Eric is coached by his Dad - and I have so much respect for him trusting me with the mindset work. He allows me challenge Eric to become the best version of HIMSELF, not just a better player.
Our biggest work? Controlling his emotions when the pressure hits. When adversity shows up. When the game gets tight and most kids fold - Eric learned to breathe, lock in, and RESPOND instead of react.

Eric, I’m so proud of you! That medallion means more to me than you know, but me witnessing the growth was the biggest flex.
This is bigger than basketball.🫡💪🏾💯
